HELP TANYA FIGHT LUNG CANCER
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Tanya Alfonso. I am 39 and a resident of NYC recently diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. Here is my story.
Until May 11, 2014 the last time i spent the night in the hospital was Sept. 6th, 1974; the day after i was born. I have always been a healthy person besides the occasional cold, flu or broken finger. On Mother's Day of this year my entire being as i knew it
changed forever!
I had a dry cough since mid-March. Went to my medical group 3 times and on the third visit was told to get in an ambulance and check into the ER. I did exactly that thinking I had a really bad cold! Took x-rays and waited. The surgeon then came in to tell me I had a completely collapsed right lung and needed a chest tube. Had a tube placed within a few hours and spent the next 20 days in hospitals. On the third day my doctor walked in my room and told me that I had CANCER! No definitive diagnosis, just CANCER? 11 frustrsating days later, after being attatched to a tube, suction and being at the mercy of nurses and doctors who could not answer any medical questions besides having CANCER, I demanded a transfer. Transferred to my current care facility Bellevue/NYU where the care is great. From the moment I was wheeled in I was treated as a person and not a disease.
Received a diagnosis of stage IV right lung adenocarcinoma. My thoracic surgeon was phenomenal and my oncologist is an amazing doctor. Although my cancer is inoperable and cancer is incurable, I am not terminal which i am grateful for.
I do, unfortunately live in the most expensive city in the world and have not been able to work since May and will not be able to any time soon. I have medical coverage that has helped cover many of my expenses but not close to all. I have used my savings on my bills and travel to and from all of my medical appointments. Now, I am humbly asking for the generosity and kindness of those I know and mostly those that I do not know. I am asking for this donation to help pay for my way to live with this disease. I have rent, bills, transportation, and daily expenses to cover. I know I can beat this diagnosis and hope you can help me in any way possible. I love life and all it has to offer!! Thank you for reading this and thank you for your prayers and well wishes.
Thank you and be well,
TANYA
