Hello friends, family and beyond! Oliver here talking on the behalf of Blue.
My dear partner, Blue has been pursuing medical transition for a bit of time now. I’m sure many of us understand how difficult, and at times inaccessible, gender affirming care can be. Most of it feels just out of reach, and in our current economy, even impossible sometimes. Everyone deserves the feeling of comfort looking at your reflection and seeing the person you picture in your head. Everyone deserves the joy in getting to have gender euphoria.
The majority of gender affirming care in Ontario (or Canada really) is not covered. Trans people are oftentimes paying out of pocket, or more often than not, are going without care because of it being such a huge cost barrier, and are battling heavy dysphoria on a day to day basis. Dysphoria this persistent really does weigh on a person and impacts mental health deeply.
In Blue’s case, affordability has been a huge barrier. It’s been almost a year since her previous job contracted ended, and it’s been incredibly difficult for her to have found work in this past year, even while actively searching and having potential leads. Myself, (Oliver), am doing the best I can to support the both of us while she’s been on a fixed income with being on OW since her EI unfortunately ended.
What I can say as Blue’s partner, is that I don’t want her to have to continue to go on everyday struggling the way she has. I have never met a more kind, funny or beautiful person. I want her to look in the mirror and see the person she sees in her mind. I want her to feel more at ease.
This is where we want to ask for your help. We are seeking support from our community to help gather funds so Blue can access laser hair removal, which would help alleviate dysphoria and help her gain deserved confidence and comfort.
Based on our research from comparing prices and talking to other trans folks, laser is best bought as a larger set of sessions, which would not only reduce the cost overall, but also secure a larger amount of sessions which would help give some security in knowing it will be consistently taken care.
To get 9 sessions of the type of laser needed would come to $1260 (140 each, typically priced at 175). This is our final fundraising goal, with $420 and $840 being our first and secondary ones, which would be enough to get the first few sessions going while we continue to seek support for Blue over the coming months. If there is any additional money leftover, it will go towards transportation and purchasing any items needed for aftercare.
This is a situation where every dollar counts and means the world. We understand what a difficult time it is for everyone right now, there’s a lot of great causes and people struggling with all sorts of situations or needing support via mutual aid, so if you don’t have the means to donate, truly do not worry. Doing something as simple as sharing this fundraiser would do wonders. We hope we can return the favour back to our community again, as we all take turns needing help now and then.
Thank you greatly in advance for any and all support. It means the world to me (Oliver) and I know it absolutely will mean the world to Blue too.
