LINKS TO NEWS STORIES

On July 26 Black Cat was robbed and looted for 6 hours! July 29 is Black Cat’s 6th Birthday! Please help us recover and celebrate.

Black Cat is a warm and intimate home for musicians from around the world.  It provides musicians with the space — and complete freedom — to create and experiment. It’s JAZZ@theEDGE! This combustive experience connects musicians and audiences in a powerful way. Everyone feels and values that connection! Over the past 6 years since opening, Black Cat has curated a home for artists and fans to come together like family: creating a warm and rich artistic COMMUNITY!  That’s the MISSION of Black Cat. Authentic community.

The Covid pandemic dealt a major blow to Black Cat and other venues. Black Cat was shuttered for 18 months. It relaunched last August with a fierce determination to take things to the next level!  Since its relaunch almost a year ago, the Black Cat stage has featured some of the hottest music from the Bay Area and around the globe, taking things to the EDGE! Support from the Black Cat community has been strong…but Covid has continued to reduce audiences by a third, making survival an ongoing struggle.

Early Tuesday morning on July 26, Black Cat was violated by a brazen robbery that extended for almost 6 hours! (See the news stories attached). Black Cat suffered substantial financial losses with the thieves running off with music instruments, sound equipment, food, liquor, and other valuable items stolen during the pillaging.

In true Black Cat spirit and resilience, the place reopened the very next night on July 27 with a powerful performance by Damani Rhodes Experience — a performance embodying both celebration and contemplation. The next night Kassa Overall started his residency with an explosive performance.

So many people in our Black Cat community have reached out and asked: WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?! We’ve been touched and strengthened by this outreach of comfort and support. Several musicians who have played the Black Cat stage since its relaunch came forward suggesting the launch of a GoFundMe campaign to allow the Black Cat community to provide financial help during these challenging times. And so we decided to do just that.

THANK YOU for your continuing love and support of Black Cat! Please give whatever you wish to help Black Cat contInue to foster a rich and connected music community. It’s residencies are costly but making a huge impact on musicians and audiences alike. And most importantly, please share your Black Cat stories to inspire us all! Please share this campaign with others.

Your contributions will help Black Cat make it through these challenges and build back STRONGER! We’ll use the contributions for an upgraded security system, security personnel, exterior modifications, insurance deductible, replace uninsured items, and cover the other losses.
