On November 20, a Grade 4/5 outdoor education class from Acwsalcta School in Nuxalk Territory (Bella Coola, BC) were attacked by a grizzly bear. Three students and a teacher sustained serious injuries. This was an unprecedented attack and occurred despite the group following standard safety protocols, and teachers fighting off the bear. Our community lives in good relationship with bears, and is shocked by this tragic incident. These funds will be used to support the families of those injured with medical and related expenses.
Note: This account was created by a trusted third party with the permission of Nuxalk leadership and affected families. Funds will be transferred directly to the Nation and then to a "banker" designated by each family. This event has affected each of us profoundly. We are very grateful for the broad care and support we are receiving - Stutwiniitulhap!
