Battling Endometriosis: Help Me Get My Life Back

Hello, my name is Mariana, and I want to share my story with you in the hope of finding support for my surgery and recovery. It’s difficult to open up this way, but I need to do it because this disease has taken so much from me, and now I need help to get my life back.

A Decade-Long Battle

For more than a decade, I have lived with the constant pain of endometriosis. It has been years of doctor visits, incorrect diagnoses, and feeling like my voice wasn’t being heard. Finally, two years ago, I underwent surgery with the hope of finding relief, but due to a lack of knowledge about the disease in my country, the surgery was not successful.

Far from improving, my condition continued to worsen. Today, my diagnosis is deep endometriosis, a severe form of the disease that affects not only my uterus but also my intestines and bladder. Additionally, I suffer from adenomyosis, which further complicates my situation.

What is Endometriosis and How Does It Affect My Life?

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, affecting other organs and causing inflammation, scarring, and unbearable pain. In severe cases like mine, it can affect vital organs like the intestines and bladder, leading to complications that affect every part of my daily life.

Living with this disease means waking up with pain and going to bed with it. It has forced me to give up things I loved, like my career in aviation. Simple tasks like going out, working, or exercising have become a challenge. Now, I can only work from home because the pain and extreme fatigue prevent me from leading a normal life.

Beyond the physical pain, this disease has also impacted my emotional well-being. Living with a chronic condition without access to proper medical care can make you feel trapped in a body that doesn't respond, and in a system that offers no solutions.

A Hope: The Surgery That Could Change Everything

Fortunately, there is hope. A team of expert surgeons specializing in endometriosis and excision surgery will be coming to Bolivia to perform procedures like mine. Dr. Ramiro Cabrera and Dr. Lucía Chaul are endometriosis specialists, and Dr. Ana Sierra is a neuropelvic specialist. Together, as part of the Doyenne Institute in Mexico, they have dedicated their lives to treating this disease and restoring quality of life to women like me. Their expertise will be crucial, as it’s possible that some nerves are affected too.

After years of suffering, this is a good opportunity to take my life back.

The total cost of the surgery is $10,000 USD, but there are many other additional expenses: preoperative tests, postoperative recovery, medications, and follow-up appointments. Unfortunately, I cannot cover all of this on my own, especially since I will need an extended recovery period.

Una Cirugía para Recuperar Mi Vida: Tu Ayuda Puede Cambiarlo Todo

Hola, mi nombre es Mariana, y hoy quiero compartir mi historia contigo con la esperanza de encontrar apoyo para mi cirugía y recuperación. Es difícil exponerme de esta manera, pero necesito hacerlo, porque esta enfermedad ha tomado demasiado de mí y ahora necesito ayuda para recuperar mi vida.

Una Lucha de Más de 10 Años

Durante más de una década, he vivido con el dolor constante de la endometriosis. Han sido años de visitas médicas, diagnósticos erróneos y sentir que mi voz no era escuchada. Finalmente, hace dos años, me sometí a una cirugía con la esperanza de encontrar alivio, pero debido a la falta de conocimiento sobre la enfermedad en mi país, la operación no fue exitosa.

Lejos de mejorar, mi condición siguió empeorando. Hoy, mi diagnóstico es endometriosis profunda, una forma severa de la enfermedad que no solo afecta mi útero, sino también mis intestinos y vejiga. Además, padezco adenomiosis, lo que agrava aún más mi situación.

¿Qué es la Endometriosis y Cómo Afecta Mi Vida?

La endometriosis es una enfermedad en la que un tejido similar al del revestimiento del útero crece fuera de él, afectando otros órganos y causando inflamación, cicatrices y un dolor insoportable. En casos graves como el mío, puede comprometer órganos vitales como los intestinos y la vejiga, generando complicaciones que afectan cada aspecto de la vida diaria.

Vivir con esta enfermedad significa despertar con dolor y acostarme con él. Me ha obligado a renunciar a cosas que amaba, como mi carrera en la aviación. Tareas simples como salir, trabajar o hacer ejercicio se han vuelto un desafío. Ahora solo puedo trabajar desde casa porque el dolor y la fatiga extrema me impiden llevar una vida normal.

Más allá del dolor físico, esta enfermedad también ha impactado mi bienestar emocional. Vivir con una condición crónica sin acceso a la atención médica adecuada puede hacer que te sientas atrapada en un cuerpo que no responde y en un sistema que no te ofrece soluciones.

Por suerte, hay esperanza. Un equipo de cirujanos expertos especializados en endometriosis y cirugía de escisión vendrá a Bolivia para realizar intervenciones como la que necesito. Juntos, como parte del Instituto Doyenne de México, han dedicado sus vidas a tratar esta enfermedad y devolver la calidad de vida a mujeres como yo.
