Hi, I'm Naomi, a trans woman living in the state of Florida. Due to both short and long-term implications arising from both the State and Federal Government's actions, I am trying to relocate out of the United States. Under the current leadership, life has been made far more difficult for me and my safety. From access to medication being limited, to reduction in protections when it comes to rights and work, to laws being put in place that are anti-Trans.
Florida is especially bad about these hardships, including a bathroom ban that has jail time and fines. I am looking at the long-term effect of this as well since many pushes are at the Federal level that states currently considered safe won't remain that way. We already see this with many politicians moving back the goalposts on their spoken defense of the trans community. This year alone we have had 981 anti trans bills proposed throughout the US, not including the executive orders by our president.
I have been searching for work since I had to leave my previous position. I have filled out many applications both in and out of my industry but have not had any luck. Only a few interviews, and with the whole anti-DEI push, this continues to become harder.
I am looking for help in this relocation to Sweden. I have been working on job searches there which have been more promising, with many protections in place in the country. It is also a place I am familiar with and have spent time there. I am seeking help in procuring the cost of moving, travel costs, apartment finding, cost of visa, and the amount I need to show I have available to obtain the visa I need.
This is my way out of uncertainty and in hopes of a better, safer future. One where I am not dreading the daily news to see what new anti-Trans rhetoric or law is out there, where I am not afraid to leave the house because of what people might do now that they are more emboldened by their leaders, where I can get a fair shot at work, medical, and the support I need.
