Let's face it, the playing field in public education isn't level. In some instances, the field doesn't even exist.
Despite this harsh reality, the Anne Beers Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) has managed to successfully fund coding and chess after school programs for 2 years now. In fact, many of your generous contributions helped us achieve that goal.
However, our need for basic resources for our young scholars persists. And we still need your help!
When our students take the PARCC exam (standardized test), the normally three week process weeks takes longer at our school because we do not have enough computers to accommodate the number of students being tested. On a daily basis our teachers are challenged with not just finding working computers but utilizing a network that does not support the volume of computers needed in our classrooms.
In addition, our parents are seeking to raise funds to expand our offerings of high quality after school programs that will afford our scholars an opportunity to engage in structured science-technology-engineering-arts- math (STEAM) and sports activities.
The reality is, we cannot accomplish any of these things without the support of our community, personal networks, friends and family. What we're trying to say is, we really need you.
