Aid for Mother and Daughter Duo
Donation protected
I am a concerned sister reaching out for help because my sister Marissa, suffered a severe spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed from the chest down in 2015. Since then she has persevered through hard times and for the last year has been participating in research studies through the University of Louisville. Hardship struck again in early October when Marissa and our mom were crossing the street and were both struck by a vehicle; the driver of the vehicle was texting. Marissa broke her hip in the accident and her custom power wheelchair was so badly damaged that it may be irreparable. A new power wheelchair that would accommodate her needs would cost upwards of $80,000. Our mother, who was also hit by the vehicle, is Marissa's sole caregiver and was also severely injured in the accident. Mom cares for Marissa daily by assisting with things like getting in/out of bed, preparing meals, and performing other medically necessary tasks. Part of the money donated will also go to helping our family hire care giving assistance to allow mom time to heal, as well as helping with the large amount of medical bills that are now accruing that have to be paid out of pocket Unfortunately, I live many hours away with six children and am financially unable to move or afford any of these expenses to help my sister and mother out.
With medical bills, the purchase of a new power wheelchair, and hiring in home care-giving assistance, we are looking to raise $80,000 to help out this ever so deserving mom and daughter duo.
