Single Mom, Adelaida Rojas, Memorial Fundraiser

Life has suddenly changed with the passing of our beloved Adelaida. On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at the young age of 36, Adelaida lost the fight against COVID-19. On her final days she tested negative for the virus but ultimately succumbed to the damage it caused to her body.
On December 28, 2020, Adelaida was admitted to Kaweah Delta Hospital. For 6 weeks, she put up a strong fight and was determined to beat this illness for her 4 children and loved ones. However, days prior to her COVID diagnosis, she had just completed a round of chemotherapy. Adelaida had Lupus as well as Chronic Psoriasis and was regularly treated with strong treatments, including chemo. Unfortunately, with a compromised immune system, she was left vulnerable and unable to win this fight.
Adelaida was brought to the United States by her mom, at the age of 8. Undocumented and without the rest of her siblings, she was brought here in hopes of a better life. Her legal status never deterred her from working or becoming a valuable member of her community. As the pandemic continued, Adelaida was deemed an essential employee and continued to work.
At the age of 15 Adelaida transitioned into motherhood. She kept busy juggling work, her chronic illnesses, and being a single mom. As fast paced as her life seemed, she was always smiling.
Adelaida had a passion for life. She loved her family and there was not a single thing she wouldn’t do for them. She loved to spend time with loved ones. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, collecting Princess House cookware, and other novelty items. She also loved to dance.
Adelaida was not a greedy person. She was someone that would help and show kindness to others without expecting anything in return. Many of us were lucky enough to experience this level of kindness from her. Whether this was through a loan without a return date, or a plate of her delicious cooking. There wasn’t a thing Adelaida wasn’t willing to share with others. For example, she would regularly take food to family members. She would walk straight into her uncle Quirino’s home with a smile and yell out “!Tio!, !Tia! Les traje algo”, announcing that she brought them a meal.
This GoFundMe was first created to help cover Adelaida’s medical expenses. Now this GoFundMe will also serve to provide for her funeral expenses and for her children. Adelaida leaves behind a 20 year old son, a 14 year old son, a 3 year old daughter, and a 1 year old son. She is survived by a loving mother, father, two brothers, and an extended family that is feeling the void she has left behind in our lives and our hearts. We ask that you donate what you can and even if you can’t donate, please share this with friends, family and your social networks. Help us show her kids the support we have for them and for their mom.

La vida ha cambiado de repente con el fallecimiento de nuestra querida Adelaida. El Miercoles 10 de Febrero de 2021, a la temprana edad de 36 años, Adelaida perdió la pelea contra el COVID-19. En sus últimos días dio negativo en la prueba del virus, pero finalmente sucumbió al daño que le causó a su cuerpo.
El 28 de diciembre de 2020, Adelaida fue admitida en el Hospital Kaweah Delta. Durante 6 semanas, luchó fuerte y estaba decidida a vencer esta enfermedad para sus 4 hijos y seres queridos. Sin embargo, días antes de su diagnóstico de COVID, acababa de completar una ronda de quimioterapia. Adelaida tenía lupus y psoriasis crónica y se la trataba regularmente con tratamientos fuertes, incluida la quimioterapia.
Desafortunadamente, con un sistema inmunológico comprometido, quedó vulnerable e incapaz de ganar esta pelea. Adelaida fue traída a los Estados Unidos por su mamá, a la edad de 8 años.
