My First Film: SHAMAR
Donation protected
My name is Thandisizwe Chimurenga - “Tondie” for short - and I’ve been writing since I was five years old. I’ve written for several online and print entities, and in 2014 I wrote No Doubt: The Murder(s) of Oscar Grant based on my coverage of the trial of Oscar Grant’s murderer, and Reparations Not Yet in 2015 based on a history/analysis of African American efforts to secure reparations for enslavement and oppression. I’ve finally taken the leap to expand my print writing to film and in 2017, I was part of a team that created East of LaBrea (EOLB), a digital web series. EOLB was my first venture into screenwriting and now SHAMAR (Hebrew for Protect/or) is my first effort as sole author.
SHAMAR is a short film - approximately 25 minutes - that connects both Southern and inner city history and contemporary reality. As an independent journalist I have relied on my community in the past for their support of my endeavors and I’m coming to you all again for your help with SHAMAR. Monies raised from this GoFundMe will complement other efforts such as grants, direct appeals and personal funds to make SHAMAR a reality.
My goal is to share SHAMAR with my community by making it available to both film festivals as well as an online audience. ANY amount will be greatly appreciated: $5, $10, $25, $5000 or more, whatever you can do.
DON’T FORGET! You can donate anonymously to keep people outcho bidness …
Thank You again so much for your help in making my first film a reality!
Peace & Blessings to You!
