A new life for Zachary
Mr. Zachary was found at a farm in Maryland so starved that he could not stand up. The flies were already starting to congregate on him. The volunteers from Star Gazing Farm rushed him home and immediately started fluids and very small, frequent meals along with medicine prescribed by the veterinarian. He ended up spending a month at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary teaching hospital where he learned how to walk again. We have already paid for this visit ($3280 was our cost for this).
Unfortunately, he also had ulcers in both his eyes. Regular treatment of ointments did a beautiful job on the left eye, but the right eye's ulcer ruptured. This means he has to have the eye removed.
Although he eats very well, Zachary has not gained much weight and so we are raising funds for:
(1) the removal of his right eye and follow-on treatment
(2) a livestock scale so that we can monitor his weight frequently. (http://palletscales.net/vs-2000_livestock_scale.htm)
Our veterinary budget is now very strapped and that is why we are asking for donations to help Zachary be pain-free and to let him live out the rest of his life in peace and with happy friends around him.
More information about Star Gazing Farm: Star Gazing Farm rescues neglected, abused, and abandoned farm animals and gives them a permanent safe haven. The animals are then our ambassadors for compassion. We work with youth, teaching them humane care of animals. The youth, in turn, welcome and speak with the general public about the importance of having compassion for farm animals and caring for them properly.
