A New Chapter: From Soldier to Professional Photographer

For the past 20 years, I have dedicated my life to serving in the United States Army as an Information Technology and Cybersecurity officer. I was quite good at what I did and began climbing the ranks and devoting myself as a public servant to the country. As rewarding as this journey has been, I now find myself at a crossroads, facing the daunting prospect of military retirement and transitioning to a new chapter in my life. The thought of starting over is both exhilarating and intimidating, especially after two decades of following a single path to success.
Now, as I prepare to retire from the Army, I am eager to pursue something that I have been passionate about for as long as I can remember: photography. The art of capturing moments, telling peoples' stories through images, and exploring the world through different perspectives has always intrigued me. It's a dream that has grown over the years, and now I am ready to turn it into my new profession.
However, stepping into the world of professional photography is easier said than done. Most of the equipment I've acquired over the years has not been geared towards professional use. To make the leap from amateur to professional will require a significant investment in upgrading and acquiring both equipment and training —resources that are challenging to come by during this period of transition. This is where I humbly ask for your support.
Your contributions will help me cover essential costs such as:
- Professional-Grade Photography Equipment: The equipment I already own is fine for learning and practicing on. However, most of my tools are not built with the capabilities and durability required in a working professional studio. Professional-grade equipment is pricey, but the difference in quality is noticeable.
- Training and Education: I am mostly self-taught, however am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Photography. The courses that make up this degree program have taught me a lot, but there is still a lot of ground that they don't cover. Additional courses and workshops will help me to improve my skills and better serve my future clients.
