We are a family of seven from Gaza now struggling to survive in Cairo, Egypt, after losing everything we once called home.

Our lives were torn apart by the war. We were forced to flee our home in Gaza multiple times as the bombs came closer and closer. Each time, we hoped it would be the last. But then, our home — the place that held our memories, our father’s laughter, and our childhood dreams — was reduced to rubble.

Soon after we finally reached some safety in Egypt, tragedy struck again. My father, who stayed behind for a short time, was killed. He became a martyr, leaving behind a heartbroken family now trying to survive without him. His absence is felt in every breath, every night we lie awake wondering how we will face tomorrow.

Today, my mother and the rest of our family are trying to survive in Cairo, living with the unbearable weight of loss and displacement. They are strangers in a country that is not their home, unable to work legally, with no source of income, and faced with the harsh reality of Egypt’s rising cost of living. Rent is expensive, food prices are high, and healthcare is almost impossible to afford.

Every day, my mother, a widow, struggles to find ways to cover the basics — rent, food, medicine — while trying to hold our family together. She carries more pain and responsibility than anyone should have to bear. The uncertainty and fear of displacement have taken a deep emotional toll on all of us. We miss our home, our friends, and the life that was taken from us.

When peace returns to Gaza, our dream is to rebuild a small home there — even if it’s simple, a place where we can belong again. And if returning home is not possible yet, your help will at least allow my family to survive and rebuild their lives in Egypt until that day comes.

Being far from them is the hardest thing I have ever experienced. I live every day with worry, guilt, and hope. Hope that there are still kind hearts in this world who will stand with us, who will help us through this dark chapter until we can see light again.
