Help Joey Get the Specialized Care He Needs

Joey is four months old and weighs only 1.4 pounds. This sweet little kitten has already faced the possibility of losing his life before he’s had much of a chance to live it.

Joey was at an animal shelter in Florida and on the euthanasia list. I was in contact with the shelter before his deadline, hoping to help find a way to save him. Thankfully, a Florida rescue stepped up and pulled him to safety.

About two weeks later, that rescue needs help. Joey has an esophagus condition similar to my cat Topanga’s megaesophagus, and he needs a balloon dilation procedure. The rescue saved his life, but they don’t have the financial resources or experience needed to manage his specialized care.

They have been in contact with me, and I’m working to bring Joey to Ohio as a foster so he can receive care at MedVet in Columbus, the same hospital that helped Topanga.

Caring for Topanga has taught me how much patience, time, and attention a kitty with eating difficulties can need. While Joey’s condition and treatment may differ from hers, I’m prepared to learn what he needs and work with his veterinary team to support him. He’ll also have a very understanding foster sister in Topanga, who knows all about meals that require a little extra help.

Making this happen comes with expenses beyond getting him here. Donations will help cover my round trip flight to Florida, the airline fee for Joey to travel home with me, his veterinary evaluation, balloon dilation procedure, and follow up care, along with medications and feeding supplies recommended by his veterinary team.

We don’t yet have a final treatment estimate. I will share updates about travel arrangements, veterinary recommendations, costs, and Joey’s progress as we learn more.

Joey would be coming to me as a foster. My goal is to help him receive the treatment and support he needs, then help him find a loving home prepared for his ongoing care.

I know there are so many animals and families who need help, and I understand completely if donating isn’t possible. Sharing Joey’s story is another meaningful way to support him.

A rescue stepped up to give this tiny boy a chance. With your help, we hope to take that next step toward getting him the care he needs.
