The Super Scotty Bears, Newburgh
Raising money to travel to Denmark for the First Lego League Open European Championships.
We are the Super Scotty Bears from Newburgh Primary School in Fife. As a team we have taken part in the First Lego League international competition . This is a world wide event where pupils aged 9-16 undertake a series of challenges based upon a theme each year.
This year the theme is 'Animal Allies' and the team are required to design, build and program an autonomous LEGO robot to solve a series of missions
Their robot is called Roberta and is built from LEGO Minestorms and programmed by the team using Ev3.
They also have to undertake a research project based upon the theme of animals that help us. After meeting many experts including the police dogs, hearing dogs and the SSPCA they decided upon a project to redesign the poorly fitting Guide Dog puppy training coat. They took their designs to Forfar to the training school and also shared their design with Guide Dogs UK in England.
They have also been busy teaching other schools in Fife how to code EV3 robots.
The Team won their Scottish heat at Dundee University in December and were awarded a place at the UK finals in Bristol in February. Here they competed against 47 other teams from around the UK and Ireland. They were delighted to be awarded one of three Judges awards for overall excellence!
This means their adventure continues as they have earned a place at the FLL Open European Championship in the home of LEGO; Denmark!
There we will compete with 100 other teams from around Europe representing Scotland at an international level.
We have set up this page to help us raise the funds needed to attend this amazing opportunity. The event is in May and we have flights, hotels and entrance fees to pay for.
Any contrbutions would be very gratefully received to enable our team to continue their LEGO adventure. It would be wonderful if you could also share us on social media! We have an instagram account too if you would like to follow our adventures.
Many thanks from The Super Scotty Bears.
