“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” Jesus said to him, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. The second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:36-40

On August 21, 2020, Rin Seibert - beloved mom, wife, grandma, friend, and colleague – entered into complete joy with Jesus. While she is no longer physically with us, her spirit, values, and legacy live on in her family, friends, and the countless individuals who she blessed with her boundless love, selfless care, and humble passion for Christ. Rin lived the words embodied in Matthew 22 through her daily actions: she embraced strangers like loved ones, she actively sought out people in her life who needed extra love, prayers, or support, and she fiercely advocated for friends as well as people she barely knew who found themselves facing life’s challenges. Above all, she always grounded her selfless actions in her love for God and her relationship with Jesus.

As members of Rin’s family, we feel so fortunate that we were so often the recipients of mom’s grace and selfless love, and we also feel immeasurably blessed that we had the opportunity to learn from her compassion and  care for others. During these last months we talked together as a family and prayerfully considered how we could honor mom’s legacy and pass on the limitless love that defined her life in an enduring and impactful way. In that spirit, we have decided to create the Seibert Family Foundation with the goal to honor mom’s legacy, uplift others in need of support, and regularly come together as a family to express the values that mom embodied every day: Christ-centered faithfulness, compassion and service to others, joy, and perseverance.

Mom loved traditions and few things gave her more joy than our family spending time together. In creating the family foundation, our intention is to establish a new tradition of giving together that leads to meaningful support for others that that would make mom proud. Throughout the years, mom has embraced friends and colleagues as extensions of our immediate family, so we thought a special way to honor her legacy would be to launch the family foundation in collaboration with the community that mom loved so deeply. With that in mind, in lieu of flowers or cards we humbly invite anyone that feels called to join us in establishing the family foundation by donating. We have started the logistical process to establish the foundation and plan to have it fully set up by the end of 2020. In the meantime, if you would like to donate you can do so via GoFundMe and we will ensure that 100% of all funds will directly impact individuals and groups that we will support through the foundation.

A charge that our family has focused on as we’ve reflected on how to celebrate mom’s memory is Love Like Rin. To Love Like Rin means giving freely and selflessly, fiercely advocating for those without a voice or in need of help, boldly loving friends and strangers alike, and running towards Jesus in all that we do. The Seibert Family Foundation is one specific expression of that love, and we are grateful for your willingness to join us in honoring mom’s legacy in this way. From the bottom of our heart, thank you for all of the ways you have loved and supported mom and our entire family.
