As most of you know, Joan and Scott decided to make a big move (and life change) in 2014. They bought a farm in Marlin, Texas and began their next adventure. Joan had her pups and garden and Scott raised and sold hogs with his company, Boss Hawgs.
On April 20, 2017, on a drive to Waco, Scott got into a major car accident. He was life flighted to Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. They put him in a medically induced coma for two weeks. He had broken his back and frayed spinal cord. During that time he had two back and spinal operations where they placed 3 steel rods that go from T5 to T12.
His left knee was also severely damaged. Again they added rods to his leg so he could not move knee. Unfortunately, the knee has no tendons left. Scott has had paralysis since the accident and does not currently have use below his waist. He has been going to physical therapy.
Scott was released from the hospital on June 30, for the first time. He has since been hospitalized twice... once in September for an operation on a pressure wound and the second time was this month for colostomy bag.
Joan is Scott's mother and primary caregiver (at 71) and has been amazing. With weekly doctors appointments and therapy sessions in town (26 miles away!) times have been tough, not even to mention the EXTREME costs associated. Needless to say, their homes and the land have suffered tremendously and are in desperate need of attention. No one has been able to tend to the land in 9 months. Since Scott and Joan are planning on putting their farm on the market and moving to Pasadena, Texas, this is an immediate concern. They do not have the physical ability or the funds needed to make make this happen. They both desperately need to be here with a good support system and to be close to hospitals , family and friends.
On January 20, 2018 we are going to Marlin to clean up and mow the land, fix broken items, mend fences, paint, etc. We are hiring three workers that are certified to operate heavy equipment for the land (Derek's crew is driving to Marlin from Houston) and we are hiring another crew to haul away multiple loads of trash. Any donations that you can make to help with these costs would be greatly appreciated. All funds, over the cost of the clean up, will go towards the cost of their move and to their significant medical costs.
Thank you so much for your consideration (and prayers!!!!)
Much love -
