Rebuild the Maximo Family's Home

On October 13, Maximo, Silvia, and their extended family (of 15 people) lost their home. It wasn’t washed away by the flooding that’s devastated Panama. Nor was it consumed by a forest fire. Their home was leveled by human greed.
In the middle of a global pandemic, the heiress of Maximo’s lifelong employer broke their agreement, cut down all of their fruit trees, and uprooted their entire food crop. She decided it was time to sell the property. As the family watched in horror, she destroyed their humble home, most of their belongings, and their family's food source, forcing them onto the street with nowhere to go.
Maximo and his family had lived in this home (that Maximo built) for more than 15 years. For all those years, they cared for the property and harvested the coffee bean crop for the owner. In one savage moment, and without warning, she destroyed their family's life.
My name is Andrea Morgan. I'm a musician with The SoulFire Project. I live, work and travel with my son and our extended family in our school bus that runs on used vegetable oil, supporting ourselves through music and sharing sustainability techniques throughout Latin America. In 2014, when The SoulFire Project made it's way to Boquete, Panama, we were welcomed with open hearts and open arms by this family. For three years during our time in Boquete, we shared space, meals, music, and the beauty of a simple but hard life with this incredible family. Together we built a mini hydroelectric water wheel to provide light for their home. As a backup, we purchased a small solar panel system so they could still have light even if the small creek on the property wasn’t flowing. This system was also destroyed along with their home.
They have found a small lot available for $4,500. We are hoping to raise at least $7,777 for them to buy this small property, and to be able to build a simple structure that they can all call “home”. A place no one can destroy.
