MxMax's Top Surgery Fund
Donation protected
My name is Max and I am currently raising money to cover the partial cost of my top surgery booked for June 2018. I have to settle the bill mid-May.
I'm a transmasculine queer guy and single parent in my late 30s. Gender identity is something I have struggled with for many years. But in an age before the internet and readily available resources, I dismissed the massive amounts of dysphoria I'd suffered since around the age of 8 as other things. It has only been since the birth of my child a couple of years ago that I finally began to address my gender identity. I socially transitioned in April 2017 and have been on hormone therapy since Sept 2017. This has made a massive difference in my life already. The only thing really causing me continuing and often debilitating discomfort and distress is chest dysphoria.
I have been on the NHS waiting list for a Gender Identity Clinic for 18 months and have not yet had my first appointment with them. So I made the decision to start my transition privately. So far the costs have been relatively low. But surgery is far beyond my finances. I have the incredible fortune of having an amazingly supportive family who are helping me cover some of the cost of my surgery. So I am currently trying to raise the other half.
The money I'm raising here will be spent on my top surgery appointment in early June with Mr Miles Berry. The surgery is £6500 in total, the rest of which will be funded by my family. Any money made over the goal will go towards a hotel - as I will be travelling into London for the surgery, I need to stay in the area a couple of days around the surgery.
If any of you for any reason have experienced any level of dysphoria - be it related to gender or just an aspect of yourself that you struggle with - you no doubt know how truly horrible it can be to live with. Having gone 3 decades with this and never been able to really address it, I am now desperate to do so now that the solution is in sight.
To some of you I may be a stranger. To others you may know me from my performance days, I know some of you know me from my fiction writing. We may be friends, family or colleagues. Either way, I appreciate you all taking the time to read this and consider donating. I have never ending love for those of you who decide to donate.
Please feel free to share my fundraiser with anyone you think might like to help!
