Help Typhoon Haiyan Victims Fix Homes
Donation protected
Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest storm ever recorded in history, has destroyed more than 90% of homes of the places that it affected. It is so widespread that the number of families displaced by this calamity is bigger than Hurricane Katrina and 2004 Indian tsunami COMBINED.
I grew up in one of those places that was recently devastated, Ormoc - Philippines. As a lot of filipinos abroad and those in my homeland living outside the towns touched by Haiyan scrambled to raise funds to purchase and distribute relief goods to the victims in general it in the first 3 weeks, it has been recently brought to my (our) attention that my own friends and classmates in Ormoc badly need help too.
After almost a month after the super typhoon I have friends who up to now have houses that don't have roofs. One has her entire family live in the one of the "better" conditioned rooms in her house becomes problematic when it rains at night because it leaks from the and walls are too thin. Another of my friend doesn't have a good place in her house to sleep that she spends the night in the tricycle - the Philippine version of a taxi but so tiny you can not lie down, not does it have any enclosures.
I have twelve such friends who live in similar conditions who are asking for help. They are business owners, teachers, wedding dress designers-in-training/assistants, homemakers. They are people who are hardworking but as of this moment faced with a gigantic task of building their home again from scratch (for many of them) while temporarily without income.
So my other friends and myself have put together this fundraising page to appeal to people like you to consider donating any amount for this cause. All proceeds for this fundraising will be used to buy housing materials for our friends who needs it the most especially during the rainy season.
Thank you.
