CAMC Wreaths Project

Donation protected

Jason Hannen and William Wood both grew up in military families and have been inspired by the honor and commitment displayed by the service members that preceded them. In the winter of 2010 Jason returned home from a tour overseas and had the opportunity to attend a wreath laying ceremony at the Houston National Cemetery, coordinated by Wreaths Across America - Houston. The ceremony was beautiful, surreal, and inspiring. Jason captivated William with his experience and both wanted to find away to continue paying tribute in this manner. Initially we thought about raising money just for the organization Wreaths Across America (WAA), until we thought about our fallen brethren who are buried here in the United Kingdom. The Cambridge American Military Cemetery is home to 3,812 American Heroes that paid the ultimate sacrifice during World War II and is located less than 30 miles from where we are currently stationed. These beautifully maintained grounds covering over 30 acres are the final resting for 3,812 of the "Greatest Generation." However, these heroes have never been thanked or honored in such a symbolic way. We would like to change that and need your assistance in order to make it happen.

In the continental United States there is an organization called Wreaths Across America (WAA), This organization's mission is- 'Remember, Honor, Teach' - and it is carried out in part by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington, as well as veterans' cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states. WAA is committed to teaching younger generations about the value of their freedoms and the importance of honoring those who sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms.

However, for the first time we would like to mirror those efforts and pay tribute to the 3,812 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airman who never had the opportunity to make it home. Your contributions will go directly to the purchasing and shipping of 14' green spruce wreaths from a vendor located in the UK. 100% of the money raised will be used to place wreaths on the 3,812 headstones located on the cemetery grounds. The ceremony which will take place on congressionally appointed Wreath Day, 13 December 2014, and will mark the very first time this event has occurred on such a large scale overseas. The wreaths will be provided at a discounted rate shipped directly to the Cambridge American Memorial Cemetery from Thompsons Nursery in Bagnall, United Kingdom. They will be 14" fresh spruce wreaths attached to a 12" wire frame and have the traditional red bow that you see at cemeteries located around the United States. By filling the cemetery with fresh evergreen wreaths tied with a symbolic red bow we will have the opportunity to show the world that the American spirit lives on and our heroes are never forgotten.

I am asking for your help in remembering our fellow American's in a tribute to the sacrifices they made with a simple donation. Please take a few moments to watch the video as it paints a picture of the heroes interned here at Cambridge and consider making a donation. Thank you in advance! Please share and like us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter - @CambridgeAMCProject.
