Greetings Family, Friends, and Patrons of the Arts,
As many of you know, Aneesa is an amazing writer. She has a way with words as well as a voice that is truly unique and special. She specializes in poetry but also has been working on two novels and a play.
Last week we spent five days at a writers’ retreat in Vermont where Aneesa worked on a novel, shared her writing, and received very positive feedback from other authors and publishers alike. In fact, the only time the audience spontaneously clapped for someone the entire time we were there was after she read a passage from this novel. Both her words and the audience’s reaction were extremely moving.
In my opinion, the book that Aneesa is working on is a very important book and needs to be out in the world. It is a love story between two women who meet right before the Partition/Independence of India and Pakistan. Without giving anything else away, it is historically accurate when it matters (she has been busy doing her research), so, very interesting in that sense, lighthearted at times, gut-wrenching at others, and beautiful all of the time.
At the end of the retreat, Aneesa was offered an opportunity to work with a publicist, a publisher, an editor, and an agent as she continues to write her book this year. She will be heading back and forth to Vermont several times over the course of the year and, once she finishes the book, she has a really great shot at getting it published. We have been busy rearranging our schedules and our lives (and putting ourselves on an austerity budget) to make this work. We feel that because this is such a great opportunity, we cannot NOT do it. And, as nothing comes for free in this life (thanks, Dad, for teaching me that. I was prepared!), there is a financial component to all of this which is why we are reaching out to you, our beloved friends and family.
We are attempting to raise $6000 to cover the expenses that she will incur from this process. It’s a lot of money and, even though we’ve taken a financial hit this winter with the winter storms and such, we have done our research and feel that this experience will be invaluable and timely at this juncture to help her to complete her novel, receive vital feedback, and develop some important skills in marketing that she will need to navigate the extremely intense and competitive world of publishing and marketing.
Please join me in supporting Aneesa to write this story and start down the path of fulfilling her dream to be a published writer. We are asking that, if you can, please make a small donation to support her. We would be grateful for any amount: $5, $10, $15. Anything at all would be much appreciated; it all adds up!
Also, please come and visit us this summer. Aneesa will be busy writing 5+ hours a day, but me and the cat are poised and ready to entertain. Remember: we are just a short walk from the beach!
Hope to see you in Hull.
With gratitude,
Melinda
