For Bo

Donation protected
Devastatingly, our little man has relapsed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) for a third time. Bo was initially diagnosed with AML on Oct.7, 2017, when he was almost 11 months old.  He underwent 4 rounds of incredibly intense chemotherapy living in BCCH for 5 months where he learned to walk and showed incredible strength and courage.  On June 15th, 2018, he relapsed and underwent another 3 rounds of intensive chemotherapy before he was given a cord blood transplant on September 6, 2018 to hopefully be what his body needed to ensure the cancer would never come back.  The transplant was incredibly difficult on Bo and he showed an unbelievable level of resiliency.  After another 7 months living in isolation at BCCH and at Ronald McDonald House, we made it home just in time for Christmas.  We knew his prognosis was not as hopeful this time, but we also knew of AML survivors and were always hopeful.  On Feb.6, 2019, Bo relapsed again and the doctors felt that radiation treatment would work or at least buy us 1-2 more years with Bo before another relapse.  Again, we went home hopeful and waited for Bo to recover.  On April 25, 2019, Bo relapsed again and the doctors broke the impossible news to us that he is now palliative.  He will be supported by BCCH and Canuck Place to keep him as happy and comfortable as possible in his final months. The doctors are unable to give us a specific timeline for Bo, as AML is so rare and there are so many unknowns.

The community support shown in his initial Go Fund Me campaign was overwhelming and has allowed us to be with him and away from work (for the most part) for the last 18 months giving him an unparalleled level of support, care and love.  We would like to be able to continue doing this while we walk this path. And we would also like to be able to provide Bo with as many experiences as possible over the coming months, without the concern  of financial limitation.  We plan to use the funds for Bo while he is still with us here.  We plan to donate any leftover funds to the BCCH Foundation to support childhood cancer research, which is hugely underfunded.

Sincerely and with so much gratitude,

Jeff, Kat and Bo
