The BraveArt Project - Therapeutic Art Kit Program
Every six days, a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.
One in three women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
Nova Scotia officially declared intimate partner violence an epidemic in 2024.
When someone escapes abuse, they often leave behind more than possessions, they lose their sense of safety, identity, and calm. Healing takes time, community, and tools that make expression possible.
That’s why I created The BraveArt Project.
Why Art?
While running operations at a safe house for youth exiting human trafficking and sexual exploitation, I saw firsthand the power of art.
Painting. Journaling. Creating together.
These weren’t just activities, they were lifelines. Survivors found calm, connection, and a way to express what words couldn’t.
Therapeutic art is not about being an “artist.” It’s about reclaiming courage and giving the nervous system a break from trauma. Research shows that creative practices reduce stress, lower anxiety, and support mental well-being.
