Dignity for David

Donation protected
I am David Altgelt's son Justin. I haven't seen my father in several years and have just recently been informed of his passing. On the 13th of March he passed due to systolic heart failure which came as an absolute shock to me as he lived an active, organic and health conscientious lifestyle. I recently learned he suffered a nearly fatal, severe, heart attack in September of 2016 which left him unable to continue working.
David was left with insurmountable debt and continued to weaken mentally and physically until he checked into University Medical Center of Lubbock Texas on March 1st, his 64th birthday. He shortly thereafter succumbed to his illness nearly alone. I have learned the morning of his death he was visited by two dear friends that placed a bible by his person and gave to him a military rosary. He passed that evening with a UMC nurse by his side holding his hand.
My father chose to be alone in his final days without notifying myself or my younger brother Jake. That has been extremely difficult to process for us but, with certainty, it must have been a tremendous burden for him to carry until his end.
I was able to see him one last time the afternoon of March 30th. I held his hand, said a prayer for him on behalf of myself and Jake, then reluctantly said goodbye.
I am truly, truly blessed to be a father to my beautiful children Mason and Addison and to receive the love and companionship of my amazing wife Kelsey without whom I would be lost.
My loving and supportive in law's Roz and Bill have accompanied me to Amarillo, his home, in an effort to resolve his affairs and help me find some closure.
My father was an army veteran and an active parishoner of St Peters Episcopal Church of Amarillo where I am grateful he found greatly needed love and support.
Thank you Kathryn for believing in and loving my father unconditionally these past 10 years. I am forever grateful he found you.
David is currently at University Medical Center in Lubbock Texas and I'm doing everything I can to see that he is taken care of with dignity and respect. I may not have agreed with the choices he made concerning myself and my brother Jake but I love him. He will always be our Dad. We will love him, always.

I have a mortgage, student loans, vehicle payments, etc... I wasn't prepared for this situation. Due to my father's illness his home is being foreclosed upon and all of his financial resources have been depleted. By the grace of my in-laws my trip to Amarillo has been funded to secure items of sentiment and salvage what I can for his final arrangements.
All prayers for David are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully,
Justin Max Altgelt
