Higgins' Family Plot
Donation protected
On a trip back to Liverpool in 2011 (to celebrate Mom's 80th) we had the opportunity to visit Ford Cemetery and the gravesite of my grandfather (Patrick Ferguson), great-grandmother (Sophia (Cunningham) Higgins) and great grandfather father (Richard Higgins). Many of you share this same relation – others are closer in lineage as our parents, aunts and uncles. The picture above was taken on this trip and shows the location of the gravesite.
Prior to our arrival at the cemetery Mom informed us she had a landmark and a bearing but to be prepared for a search as the site was unmarked. Once at the cemetery we started off on our search – we knew we were close but were unable to discern the correct grave – so after some time a cemetery maintenance worker offered to help us. Taking the names he went back and confirmed the grave number as M1072 and helped us confirm the spot. On the way back to our residence we discussed the need to better mark this important gravesite for current and future generations. Hence this fundraiser – albeit a few years late :)
First off a big shout out to Uncle Colin who provided critical documents and family history allowing us to correctly list and document burial records and dates. We are now in a position to legally erect a headstone in Ford Cemetery and have selected a monument mason to complete the work. All that remains to do is fund the project and contract the work.
The decision was made to go with a black granite headstone similar to the one below and will be 2'6" high x 2'0" wide x 4" thick.
The inscription will read:
For those we love.
SOPHIA I. HIGGINS 12 DEC 1905 - 11 DEC 1906
RICHARD HIGGINS 27 JUNE 1873 - 16 NOV 1911
LUCY A. GARNER OCT 1916 - MAY 1917 (space left for addition of specific dates at a later time)
MARY HIGGINS 6 APRIL 1921 - 7 APRIL 1921
BERNARD R. HIGGINS 9 JUNE 1928 - 9 JUL 1928
PATRICK FERGUSON 25 FEB 1898 - 3 JUN 1954
SOPHIA (CUNNINGHAM) HIGGINS 13 JAN 1872 - 8 JUNE 1955
May he or she rest in peace with God.
The cost of the project is $2,500 - Any donations you can make to the cause would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All!
