Katelyn's Hemispherectomy
Donation protected
This is Katelyn, she was born at 35 weeks with Listeria which developed into meningitis. Chances of survival were slim but she made it through! Unfortunately, the meningitis caused her to develop hydrocephalus and she had brain surgery at 12 weeks old to insert a VP shunt. We've had 7 brain surgeries since then for revisions and in 2012 she developed epilepsy and had a stroke. After 11 months of therapy, she started to walk again, then the seizures came back with a vengance. Now her only hope to stop the seizures from killing the left side of her brain, is to remove the right side completely. This surgery and recovery takes many months and will require mom to have no income as the medical bills come in. Plus medical equipment she will need at home once surgery is complete. Any help is much appreciated!
