SUPER SOLIDARITAT - SUPER SOLIDARITY . Moltes gràcies per la teva ajuda i per compartir, junts ho aconseguirem ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  SUPPORT THE FREE SUPERMARKET, REBOST NOTE: When donating you will be asked to consider giving a tip, which is used to finance the Go Fund Me platform. You can change the quantity to OTHER and then type ZERO. Confined at home, removed from the world as the world endures the pandemic, it’s natural to feel impotent, frustrated and beset by the notion that we could be doing more. And if you’re not originally from Sóller, you may be asking how you can help your adopted community or how you can show solidarity with your neighbours, wondering what role you, as a foreigner, have to play in the unfolding drama.   Of course, we’re all doing lots by our very inactivity – the home front is the frontline, so to speak, as we strive to outwit the virus. Yet while this is an unprecedented public health crisis, of course, it is also a massive economic crisis, whose impact, for many, is being immediately felt. In Sóller, fantastic, imaginative initiatives are springing up – from donations of essential materials to ingenious cottage-industry face masks distributed across the valley.  And another immediately effective way to help, without breaching quarantine, is by giving money. This will instantly and effectively help a centralised, coordinated and inspired initiative. In a former school, here in Soller, the REBOST free supermarket is now providing a basic weekly shop for 101 families or individuals in need. Demand is high and set to grow: they’ve already gone through 4,300 lites of milk, for example. It’s a project run by ACCIÓ SOCIAL SÓLLER, part of Caritas, in collaboration with town hall social services, volunteers and the local Red Cross, all of whom are facing unprecedented demand for basics and deliveries to our vulnerable neighbours.  So we need to keep those shelves stocked, ideally without physically bringing donations with the concomitant risk of spreading infection. As well as providing food, baby products, and toiletries, Acció Social also offer micro credits to help people cover immediate needs. The free supermarket, open Mondays from 10.00 to 13.00, is operated on a points-based system according to need – evaluated by the local Red Cross. If you yourself require anything or you know anybody who should be availing of the services, please contact Marga at the town hall social services: 971634836 or email serveissocials@a-soller.es And remember, this is not charity. This is mutually helping each other at a time of unprecedented crisis. You can do your bit by making a contribution, which will be passed on, on behalf of all us adopted residents of Sóller, to keep those shelves stocked at REBOST.
