Help Marley Fight Cancer

This is Marley, my best friend’s three-year-old rescue Shepard mix from a small reserve in Northern Alberta. Mid September 2021 Marley's mom, Shaina, felt a skittle-sized lump on miss Marley’s tummy. After monitoring the lump for a couple days, it seemed to have grown substantially and her concerned pawrents took her to the vet. The vet had a strong feeling it was a tumor and given how fast it was growing, thought it would be best to go ahead with removal and pathology for testing. The biopsy was done on September 29, 2021 by Dr. Corlene Sadler at Little Creek Veterinary Clinic and to everyone's shock, the biopsy results proved to be a grade II soft tissue sarcoma tumor. Dr. Sadler then referred Marley to the only Oncology unit in Calgary, VCA Care Centre SE, for more testing. The wait for the Oncologist was long and scary as each day Marley started losing energy and developed a lump on her right shoulder. On November 29th, 2021 Dr. Victoria Larson at VCA Care Centre performed a full CT scan to see where the cancer has spread, and to get a better understanding of margins to cut for her second surgery to remove the remainder of cancer. Unfortunately, Shaina’s biggest nightmare came true when another soft tissue tumor was discovered on Marley’s right shoulder. Dr. Larson advised the best and only option is to amputate the leg. We were all devastated and saddened by this news, Marley is a very outdoorsy, energetic pup who loves long hikes and playing in the snow. Our hope is that one last surgery will be able to completely rid her of her cancer, although the fight won't be over until her pathology tests come back clean.

So far Marley’s pawrents have paid almost $5000 in vet bills including numerous X-rays, CT scans and many tests, but they still need to get her through the amputation along with more tissue removals.
