Jackson’s Journey
Donation protected
I'm Stephanie McMunn. My cousin, Daniel Wood, is the daddy of this sweet little boy! I'm creating this GoFundMe to help ease some of the financial burdens Daniel and his wife, Robyn, will face during this time.
Jackson is an active, happy-go-lucky 3-year-old. He always has a smile on his face! And as you can see in the picture, he has an affinity for the mullet.
Unfortunately, on November 28, 2022, they received news that any parent fears. Jackson was diagnosed with Type B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He began treatment at St. Louis Children's Hospital shortly after receiving the news. Daniel and Robyn will be there with him. Jackson has seven siblings; five brothers still live at home. Daniel and Robyn wanted a large family and planned how to achieve that without burdening others. They are hard-working and have tried to instill a strong work ethic in their children.
Recently, Daniel and Robyn started a local business, Woody & Sons Disposal. However, they are still not in a profitable state, so Daniel has been working a second job to supplement their income. He's honestly one of the hardest-working men I have ever met!
If you're a parent, I'm sure you understand the financial strain. But, even the best planning and saving didn't prepare them for this. Family is important to them, and they will make what sacrifices they can to be by Jackson's side throughout every step of this journey.
It is my hope that together we can help them during this challenging time. Any help you can offer, great or small, will be greatly appreciated.
Here's more of Jackson's Journey from his mom: I have had some people ask how this all came
about so I thought I would share his story. Four weeks ago Jackson was running around our house playing and he fell. He cried for a few minutes and started limping on his right side right away. His limp got somewhat better throughout the week and we figured he had just sprained his ankle or something like that. Then on Thursday November 10th he fell going down the last step off our porch. Again he cried and was limping. During the night you could tell he was uncomfortable and not sleeping well. On Friday morning November 11th I called our pediatrician but they could not get him in so we decided I would take him to St. Louis Children’s to get checked out. We spent the day in the ER. They did full leg X-ray and a hip ultrasound to check for infection or broken bones. Everything came back clear. They sent us home and said that if he started to run a fever to bring him back to the ER or follow up with our pediatrician if the pain continued. Jackson again did not sleep well Friday night and he started running a fever Saturday morning. I called our pediatricians exchange and they told me to go ahead and take him back to Children’s. Daniel & I took him up there and they ran blood work, tested for flu, Covid, RSV and did another ultrasound of his hip. The tests all came back clear except for his inflammatory markers were slightly elevated. They were not sure what was going on but thought he had a possible virus and that was causing some joint pain. They sent us home again telling us to follow up with our pediatrician if his symptoms persisted. We watched him the following week and his limp persisted along with slight fevers that came and went. He saw his pediatrician on Monday morning November 28th and he felt that his spleen was enlarged and with his other symptoms still lingering he sent us for more blood work. His thoughts were possible bone infection, auto immune disease or Leukemia. we got the call that afternoon that plans were made for us to be admitted to Children’s on the general medicine floor to figure what was going on because the tests were unclear of what exactly was going on. We made it to Children’s around 5:30 Monday evening. They ran more bloodwork and did a blood smear where they look at his blood under a microscope. Around 9pm Monday evening we had the preliminary diagnosis of Leukemia. The next day Jackson had a bone marrow biopsy and more bloodwork to get the type and make a treatment plan. We were moved to the ninth floor and now we are on a journey that no child should have to be on. Please pray for Jackson but also pray for all of the kids who have to fight not only Leukemia but all of the other cancers that are out there. ~Robyn
