George Mason University Summer Camp

The Washington Journalism and Media Conference, at George Mason University, allows high schoolers to take part in hands-on, experiential learning through decision-making simulations that challenge them to solve problems and explore the creative, practical, and ethical tensions inherent in journalism and media. Attending this Summer program will give me the opportunity to spend a few days on a beautiful campus in the D.C. area and will allow me to explore a potential career path. Coming from the small town of Citra, Florida, kids like me rarely get opportunities like this. I would very much love and appreciate the experience. There is only one problem. The combined cost of a plane ticket and the program itself is not in my parent's budget.
I wake up two hours before school starts to lift weights in the chase for another district championship in Track and Field. I work to maintain a 4.9 GPA because I think education is key to my dreams. I am soon to be a first-generation college student and the first to leave the nest. Truthfully, I am a little scared. But, I have been scared before. I have learned to keep working, to keep moving forward. I have to chase my dreams. I really feel like attending George Mason's Jornalism and Media Conference is one of the first steps of my journey.
I would greatly appreciate any help offered and I hope to one day be in a position to help others who might need my help.
