Operation breathe easy I would like to begin with saying thank you for taking the time to give your support by clicking on this Go Fund Me. If you aren't in a position to help financially, please share . It is important to gain exposure and bring attention to our cause. I will begin with sharing who I am, and my reason for creating this particular Go Fund Me. My name is Natasha Vaughan, Karen is my aunt and my mother's twin. I am doing this in hopes of helping my aunt Karen breath easy. Karen is fifty three years old,and fighting the battle of her life. In 2015,Karen was diagnosed with lung cancer. She took on this battle and with the help of modern medicine, the surgical removal of the upper, right lobe of her lung ( lobectomy) and chemotherapy, she was deemed cancer free...she won! Karen wasn't going to take life for granted. After having battled and beat cancer, she decided to follow her dreams and live life on her terms. She enrolled in Community college to become a CCA (Continuing Care Assistant) She had the desire to provide care to those who needed medical assistance and to provide that care with love and compassion. Karen has a beautiful spirit and the willingness to share a hug or a smile with anyone who needs it. It was important to her to give back to the community who gave to her when She needed it the most. Karen spent time working in a long-term care facility and decided it was once again time to expand her knowledge, and enrolled in Medical Office Administration at the local Community College. She was on a new path in life and was doing very well. During the last semester, and work placement at VRHA Valley Regional Hospital Association , Karen got sick...she was days away from completing the placement and graduating, but was unable to complete the placement and therefore, unable to graduate. As the days passed, Karen was finding it more and more difficult to breathe. She was taken to the emergency department and was later diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis... a devastating diagnosis that would change her life forever. Over a brief period of time, Karen's disease progressed and she was no longer able to breathe on her own. She requires oxygen 24 hours a day just to breathe. Idiopathic pulmonary Fibrosis has NO cure. Karen's Only Hope of living was to remain healthy enough to be put on the lung transplant list. Getting on that list is no easy feat. Karen has had to prove to the Physicians on the transplant team that she was healthy enough to withstand the surgery. In order to do that, Karen had to dig deep and start training. She trains 3 to 4 days a week and has adjusted her diet. She has now met and exceeded all prerequisites and is now waiting to hear when she will be going to Toronto to continue to prepare for surgery. Karen still has a long road to travel and cannot do it alone. She has all of the love and support she needs, but not the financial support to make this transplant a reality. Karen has the spirit of a true warrior she has done all she can. We are asking for your support to help raise the money she will require to live in Toronto before, during and after the surgery. Please donate to her cause. No amount is too little and anything is sincerely appreciated! Time is not in Karen's favour, she needs our financial support. It will mean so much to Karen, her friends and family. Please stand beside Karen and help her fight. Thank you.
