DREAM MACHINE STOLEN
Hello,
My name is Wesley Cooper Jones and I have been an eager cyclist for a significant portion of my life. On the 13th of March 2020 my beloved bicycle was stolen from my home. A bicycle which I have built over time and has taught me about myself, my community and the world around me. My bike has had a major impact on my fitness and lifestyle as well as my mental health, and it is sorely missed.
Purchased in 2019, my bicycle has taken me on many journeys and has taught me many lessons about myself, my relationships, dealing with stress both professional and personal and how to navigate the world around me.
A journey which comes to mind was a solo self-supported packing ride from Sydney to Port Macquarie (roughly 400km of riding and 3000m of elevation). With little experience in navigating long distance travel and carrying all supplies needed for the trip (food, water, sleeping equipment etc.) I was faced with many unforeseen challenges including heavy traffic, rollie pollies and the treacherous terrain of the highway. This trip taught me about my personal limits, physical and mental; I learnt how my body responds when it is pushed outside of its comfort zone, a beautiful, painful and exciting lesson. This trip in particular helped me gain a new perspective of success: the journey itself, and the lessons learnt during, carry more wealth and prosperity than the end goal or destination.
Whilst the majority of rides on this bike were not epic expeditions, my daily local rides taught me many valuable lessons. This bike changed my life in many positive ways through consistent physical and mental exercise and exploration. This has lent me a more positive outlook on life and has helped me develop stronger relationships with friends, new and old. This bicycle has opened me up to a community of like minded individuals who continue to inspire me with their dedication and perseverance in all facets of life.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic, I understand whole-heartedly this is a strange and difficult time to ask for donations or financial help. I have been working as a chef on and off for 11 years and like many others I have found myself without work and income in these uncertain times. Whilst I recognise the hardships we as a society are now facing, there will never be a ‘good’ time to ask for financial help from you all. I have been greatly affected by the loss of this bike physically, emotionally and financially and therefore am asking you for your financial support in this trying time. Any donations are greatly appreciated and will surely help me get back on the road so I can continue to move forward in a positive way.
