Isaac's Journey

My name is Anna Giese, and Isaac is my nephew. He is 4 months old. I’m starting this Go Fund me to help alleviate some of the financial burdens/stress that come with having a little baby who needs open heart surgery, as that alone, is very difficult. Helping with those needs, will makes things a little less difficult for them as they walk this long journey. Anything helps, and no donation is too little. Thank you everyone for your support. We are so grateful!
Funds received will go towards their stay in the hotel during Isaac’s surgery and recovery, meals, travel expenses, future appointments that will require more travelling back and forth to Edmonton, and any other needs surrounding this journey.
Updates on Isaac’s surgery and recovery will be shared regularly.
Here is little Isaac’s story……..

Isaac Ryan Goetz was born 5 weeks early via emergency C-section on July 1, 2021 at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie, AB at 4:30pm.
He weighed in at 5lb 5oz, 18in long.

Shortly after he was born he was taken to the NICU where they put him on oxygen and medication to clear out his lungs. While doing a routine examination the Doctor discovered he had a very prominent heart murmur.
Upon further investigation, the doctor discovered that it wasn't just a murmur, but in fact it was a heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot (or TOF for short) which would require heart surgery for him to have a normal life.

We were in the Grande Prairie Hospital for about 2 weeks and then Shiloh and Isaac were flown to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton to see a Cardiologist who specializes in children and infants.
We were there for about a week while we sorted stuff out, including Isaac’s medication to control his “Tet Spells” and got Issac to a stable enough condition so we could take him home to meet his big sister Amy, who was extremely excited meet him!
And thanks to his amazing team of nurses and Doctors we were discharged from the hospital and on our way home on the 22nd of July.

Since then, we have been spending the last few months traveling back and forth between home (Dawson Creek, BC) and Edmonton (which is about a 7-8 hour drive for us.) Things definitely start add up with traveling back and forth to Edmonton, with hotel stays, gas, and food, etc… with doing regular check ups and getting Isaac to the point where they can operate.

November 1st, we got a call from his Cardiologist saying "We have a surgery date! Monday November the 8th, can you make it?"
So here we are, back in Edmonton, getting ready for Isaac's open heart surgery. Friday November 5th, Isaac will have all of his Pre-Op appointments done so he is ready for his surgery come Monday.

The surgeon will go in and fix a few things, but their main focus is to repair a hole that is between the left and right bottom chambers of his heart and to widen the pulmonary artery that goes to his lungs, to allow for more blood flow/oxygen.
Once he is out of surgery, he'll be in the intensive care unit for a few days while they make sure his heart is operating the way it should and making sure he heals. He then will be moved into the Pediatric unit until he is recovered enough to be sent home. Assuming everything goes well, we're looking at a minimum of two weeks in the hospital. Mom and Dad will be staying in a hotel, and big sister Amy is being cared for by Grandma and Grandpa back in Dawson Creek, BC.

It's definitely going to be a long road ahead of the little man and for our family.
We are excited and nervous but above all extremely thankful for the support and prayers of our family, friends and the amazing team of Doctors and Nurses who have been with us every step of the way.
And for the Lords protection, blessing, and faithfulness to us in this in this crazy adventure.

Please continue to pray everything goes well during the surgery/recovery and for wisdom and strength for the days to come.
Thank you all for your prayers and gifts.
They will be an immense help/blessing to us during this time.

Thank you all!
Darren, Shiloh, Amy & Isaac
