Help build a safety fence for The Town of Eagle
Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is Diana and I am a local mom of a 5 year old. I have lived and worked in the valley for over 20 years and have seen our community rise to the occasion when a crisis occurs.
On June 5th after putting my daughter to bed, my husband and I sat out on our back deck by our firepit. We noticed more and more flashlights across the river. My husband is a police officer and called dispatch to see what was going on. He found out there was a 3 year old boy missing. He immediately packed up his gear, grabbed our neighbor (his coworker) and headed over to Eagle Villas to help search. Our community showed great strength that weekend and in the weeks to follow. We joined forces and searched for Sebastian, and supported the family. This is one of the many reasons I love living here. We have amazing people that live here.
I have looked across the river for many years, and I have always thought there should be a fence above the river for safety. Eagle Villas is a large complex and they have a lot of children that play on the property. I would like to think if there was a fence along the property that sweet little Sebastian wouldn't have made it to the river. It could have been a deterrent for him, a way to buy time for his parents to find him.
This is an unsafe area of the river where many children play. We need to step up as a community and help build a fence along the river. We need to keep our children safe. This is a commonly traveled path and it needs to be made more safe for our community. Let's be honest, it could have happened to anyone and we don't want it to happen again.
I am in contact with Eagle Villas and The town of Eagle and am currently working with builders for the fence. We are figuring out a solution and details to make this work. I have vowed to raise the money for the project, and I know we have enough community support to make this happen.
Like many of you, I am just a parent/citizen that was devastated by the loss of Sebastian and I want to help make sure this doesn't happen again. There should be a fence along the river. Lets make this happen Eagle County.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. Thank you for any donations, and for sharing this page. I know we can do this!
