Ruby Ann Grimes was initially diagnosed with Stage 3 Neuroblastoma on January 1, 2020. She underwent 4 months of aggressive chemotherapy and went into remission. However, the 4” tumor could not be removed due to the cancer wrapping around the artery that supplies blood to the kidney. This last year, the tumor was closely monitored with CT imaging and labs. On most recent imaging, the tumor increased in size. After work up, it shows the cancer has recurred and is aggressive.
At first site of recurrence, the plan was for Ruby to undergo 18 months of chemo+radiation+stem cell transplant. In addition, surgical opinion was also pursued at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC/Sloan) and the surgeons have agreed to resect Ruby’s neuroblastoma tumor! Kali, Solomon, Ruby and Rosie will be traveling to New York. Surgery date is still pending as Riley Children’s Hospital is in communication with Sloan. There is uncertainty of how long the Grimes’ will be in New York & cost. This is a very high risk surgery due to vascular involvement and location of tumor. Please continue to pray for Ruby and her family!
