“In loving memory of Doreen Collyer
Wife, mum, grandmother, nurse, mentor, friend.
2 June 2016”

A very special lady who has had an amazing impact on everyone  she knew especially through the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Edith Cowan University.I’m not here to speak for all the students and former students I'm just a guy who Doreen took the time to teach in my undergrad course and then mentor through my post grad course. I wanted her to be remembered for the amazing woman she was. She always showed such grace and kindness. Her professionalism was marked by her dignity and dedication.

I owe a great deal to Doreen she help me though my course and guided me to become a Registerd Nurse at Princess Margaret Hospital. I am also a father of 4 children ages 12, 10, 8 and 3. The dedication and support she showed me and my family to reach the position that I am in now. I beleive that because of Doreen I have become a better person and Nurse.
I  am just one student of over 1400 that Doreen has guided and mentored to become the nurses we are today.

This fundraiser aims to raise money in order to set up a Scholarship  in her name to continue her Legacy and  passion with research within children and young peoples nursing.  It is hoped that a memorial bench or plaque will be designed in her honour. I will collect the funds and once the target amount has been achieved I will contat the University and also the family and discuss how the fund will be allocated. I will update the site on a daily basis and be open to any sugestions. We were initially looking at a stone bench over-looking the ocean she so loved as a quiet place of contemplation – with the blessing of the local council of course. Or something within the university grounds – of course with their permission also.

So many others on social media, phone calls and emails have said they wanted the same, so I’ve just gotten the ball rolling.

Please support this fund to allow Doreens family, collegues and students to recognise what an amazing pillar of the community she was and how she touched the hearts of so many people.
