Ayala-Chavez Family Emergency Fund
Donation protected
On Friday, May 13th, Benita Ayala saw her two older daughters board the school bus. She started walking the 1.5 blocks back to her apartment to get the younger two ready for school. While crossing the street, she was hit by an oncoming vehicle. She fractured her pelvis, ankle, and spine, and also sustained a concussion and severe internal injuries.
In September, Benita endured another tragedy that resulted in her husband's removal from the home. Since then, this strong, Mexican woman has been raising the four children on her own through farm and nursery work. She has sustained the family through DCF supervision, court visits, illness and more. She has held the family together in a difficult time.
Benita's medical bills are covered by the generous people at Jackson South. However, because Benita has not yet received her green card, she is not eligble for social services once she leaves the hospital. And because she does not speak English or have papers yet, the only jobs open to her are ones requiring a great deal of physical labor - labor she will not be able to do for 6-12 months because of her injuries.
The funds we are raising are to cover the living expenses for her and her 4 amazing children for the next 6-12 months. This includes rent, food, utilities, clothes/school expenses for the kids & transportation.
Over the last 7 years, this family has become an extended family to me and others. Anyone who knows Benita knows how resilient and generous she and her children are. Please help us make this difficult time less painful by removing Benita's financial worries.
Thank you.
