2025 Classic City Showdown: Fighting for a Change

Hello!

My name is Brian Bromley and I am the chapter president of Delta Sigma Phi at the University of Georgia. This year, we are hosting the 4th Annual Classic City Showdown, our charity boxing event benefitting Children's Healthcare of Atlanta through our partnership with UGA Miracle as well as the Ari Zarse Memorial Fund.

A little background about the Ari Zarse Memorial Fund:

Ariana Zarse was a junior studying business/political science at the University of Georgia (UGA). She was head of social events for Pi Phi and active in the Greek community.

Over three years ago, she began her training for the 2021 Classic City Showdown charity boxing event. She had never boxed before but was extremely competitive and wanted to make her sorority proud. She trained with Dean Agnew out of Keppner Boxing 3-4 times a week to prepare. She would spar with whomever she could, man or woman - it didn't matter. To her once you were in the ring you were just another fighter. She won her match by unanimous decision.

A week after she won her match, Ari was tragically killed by hit and run driver.

Ari always gave more of herself than most. She loved to volunteer and work for different causes that she believed in. In that spirit, her father and extended family set up a scholarship fund in her name with UGA.

Five years ago, the founder of this event posed a question to himself: how can we raise money for a great cause while also doing something unique, collaborative, and competitive. The following year, the Classic City Showdown was born. Since its conception, we have had 20+ fraternities and sororities from the University of Georgia compete against each other and help raise money for charity. This year, we have 14 competing chapters and 9 fights. Our event is being held on Friday, March 21st at 7pm.
