Tibetan Alliance of Chicago Building Repair
Hi, my name is Dechen Atsatsang and I am a Tibetan American rising junior at William Fremd High School. Today, I am raising funds for a community center that is very dear to me—the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago (TAC). It is a place where I, along with many other young Tibetans, have had the privilege of attending weekly classes and learning Tibet’s history, culture, and the teachings of our spiritual leader, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Through TAC, I’ve been able to find my identity and connect with my Tibetan heritage by being immersed in the culture.
The Tibetan Alliance of Chicago is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization whose operating expenses are covered mostly by annual fundraising events and donations. However, due to COVID-19 and shelter-in-place mandates, we have not been able to hold any fundraising events for our community center. And more recently, due to several unfortunate incidents including a hit-and-run driver crashing into the children’s classrooms (causing structural damage to the building) and the roof being heavily damaged due to rain leakage, our community center is in need of urgent repair but does not have the sufficient funds to do so despite existing donations from current members. TAC and its members are kindly asking for your help to restore the building to its original condition, so please donate whatever amount you can (thank you in advance!) and share this cause. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago.
More information about the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago:
The Tibetan Alliance of Chicago (TAC) is a non-profit organization seeking to preserve Tibetan heritage and serve the needs of the Tibetan community in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. TAC was established in March 1992, initially as the Tibetan Resettlement Project of Chicago, to resettle hundreds of Tibetans in Chicago coming from various parts of Tibet, India, and Nepal. Currently, TAC serves the Tibetan community by promoting the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and preserving our valued Tibetan culture by educating the younger generations of Tibetans on Tibet's history, religion, and culture through language and cultural dance classes.
