Pawswatch is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Rhode Island's feral, homeless, free roaming, and abandoned cats. As such, we get cases like Big Red.

Big Red came in at the beginning of the year, and VERY quickly, we realized how rough of a shape he was in. He had multiple contusions, lesions, and a mangled tail. All signs pointing to him potentially being hit by a car.

We contacted our vet who determined due to the trauma, the best corse of action would be to remove his tail, put him on some STRONG antibiotics, and hope for the best.

And the best was going well until it wasn't. Unfortunately, he started to go downhill fast. He developed a respiratory infection and a very high fever. He went from 12 pounds to 9 in under 10 days.

We contacted our friends at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists and he is now in their care. We are doing everything we can to give him a fighting chance to beat this and help him find a good life after all the struggles he's been thru.

Meet Fernando. This little glob of buff cuteness was left by our door needing help and quite sick. He was found to be in acute renal failure, which is rare for a baby like him, so we think he may have eaten a toxic plant or ingested another toxin of some kind. After weeks of constant care, hope, prayers, and love, his bloodwork has shown improvement! He began to eat on his own, and he played like a maniac. He enjoys pouncing on any unsuspecting center volunteers that are walking by and chases his foster mom, our vet tech, everywhere.

But, the little guy is not in the clear yet and requires a lot of daily care and diagnostics like bloodwork and ultrasound to provide him with the best treatment possible. He even has a holistic vet on his team! Despite his initial improvement, his latest labs showed no further increase in kidney function. But we are not giving up and will continue to give this little nugget the best care possible and all the love he deserves. He has affectionately been given the nickname "Dennis the Menance" by staff, so he certainly isn't giving up!
