Cosner's B.A.S.S. Opens Dream

People often underestimate the power of bass fishing.

It’s more than the hooksets, the fish catches and the camaraderie—at its core, bass fishing is an escape from the mundane. It’s a way to circumvent the stresses of everyday life.

And most importantly for David Cosner, bass fishing is survival.

On September 20, 2006, David’s world was effectively turned upside-down. What started off as a persistent runny nose turned into nonstop coughing and blood seeping from his eyes and nose. After many visits to the doctor and a biopsy, the avid bass angler received devastating news: He was diagnosed with Wegener’s Granulomatosis; a very rare disease that had attacked his lungs.

After the initial shock of the diagnoses faded, David made a decision that would shape the way he fought this cruel disease: He was going to keep fishing. PICC lines, chemotherapy and hundreds of lung surgeries be damned.

Fast-forward to 2017 and you’ll see the same courageousness—and stubbornness—for which David is known. But unfortunately, this disease has taken a more sinister turn.

It’s terminal. But David is going fishing.

His father, Don, recently asked him what his one goal is before he leaves this earth. David’s answer didn’t surprise anyone: He is determined to fish the 2018 BASS Central Opens and compete against some of the best anglers in the world. He has no time to feel sorry for himself or to bathe in self-pity. There are fish to catch and dreams to realize and David will not allow any disease to stop him.

This is his time to live. This is his time to forget about the unfair cards he was dealt. This is his time to realize a childhood dream. This is his time to scratch, claw and fight for what he loves.

And in turn, this is our time to help.

To all my friends, family, fellow anglers and Chive Family,

First off we can’t thank you all enough for helping me raise the money to make what was a dream of a young boy, a realization of a young man. David often credits tournament bass fishing for saving my life. In a way its allowed me to compete, it has taught him so much about life and how beautiful it is. He has been working tirelessly over the past 5 months gaining the industry support from a product standpoint to offset as much of my costs as possible. That being said, fishing at the professional level is not a cheap endeavor. David will be competing in the 2018 BASS Central Opens and 2018 Central Bass Champs team series with his father Don Cosner as his Bass Champs Partner.

With your help David will have the unique chance to share his story on the grandest of angling stages, inspiring anglers and non anglers alike. Exemplifying what it means to fight for every breath taken, and to cherish every hookset and landed fish along the way. All of you have been there for him and his family,  time and time again. Words can't express how thankfull we are for that.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for David, to fish as a true PRO. against anglers he has looked up to since he was a young boy. And with your help we can make that happen. As some of you may or may not know David has to be listed as “Disability” from the U.S. Government and with my small monthly stipend there is no way he could pay for all that comes with fishing at the professional level. Entry fees alone for the opens are $6,000 a season, and that’s without even making a single cast or driving one mile with my boat. Every dollar closer to the $15,000-dollar goal will help David fish comfortably, with all the travel, gas, food, entry fees, and boat expenses paid for. Needless to say it would mean the world to him.  He would be be able to check off the top box on his bucket list, and put his angling skills up against the best, all while inspiring everyone he can along this amazing journey.

We love you all so very much and I thank you for your help in making David's dream a reality!
