<div>Help Support Thai Heart During Their Time of Need
</div>
<div>If you live in Scotts Valley, you already know that Thai Heart is more than a restaurant. It is a place filled with warmth, kindness, and food that comes straight from the heart. Owners Richie (Nattawut Yimsamrarn) and Sarah have been a beloved part of our community for years, the kind of neighbors who bring us extra fruit just to share. They quietly show up when people need them most. During the CZU fires, they didn’t hesitate for a moment before jumping in to cook for firefighters and evacuees, feeding anyone who needed comfort in a difficult time. We've heard a few stories of children coming there when their parent were late for a pick-up; it's a beloved safe space with the BEST people.
</div>
<div>Now, Thai Heart needs us.
</div>
<div>This past week, Richie underwent an emergency surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. It was sudden and frightening, and the recovery ahead is long. As Richie heals, Sarah is doing everything she can to care for him while also carrying the weight of the business on her shoulders. Normally, Richie runs the front of the house and greets everyone with his warm smile while Sarah works her magic in the kitchen. Without Richie by her side, and with the emotional strain of his recovery, they are facing a heartbreaking and overwhelming moment.
</div>
<div>As their neighbors and friends here at the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, we are stepping in to help however we can. For now, Thai Heart will serve as a to go restaurant, so Richie can concentrate on his recovery. We have encouraged her to take this time with him and to reopen AFTER Thanksgiving, but this necessary pause puts them in a uncertain financial position.
</div>
<div>This is where our community can make a real difference! This is what Scotts Valley is BEST at!
</div>
<div>If you can donate, even five dollars, you will be helping this family stay afloat during the hardest moment of their lives. Our Chamber team will be working hard over the next month and beyond to help feed their regulars, and when Richie is stronger and Sarah is ready, we hope you will come support them in person. January, February, and March will be especially important months to visit Thai Heart, try their incredible food, and remind them how loved they are. Put a date night in your calendar for the new year, it's a win/win.
</div>
<div>Richie and Sarah brighten our days with their generosity, their food, and their spirit. They have shown up for us time and time again. Now it is our turn to show up for them and to ease as much stress as possible while they focus on healing.
</div>
<div>If you are able, please donate. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
</div>

Celebrities vs. Billionaires: Make a Difference!!!

<div>Hi Santa Cruz!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are fundraising to help save a 120ft tall Sequoia Sempervirens on Walnut Street.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Find our website (linked below) for more information, but long story short we have contested the removal of the twin trunks Redwood on the corner of Walnut and Lincoln Street. As of now, in an unlikely ruling, City Council has voted to give 90 more days to this lovely tree in order to collect more data about the situation. The issues are: fixing the sidewalk, and protecting the building foundation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This GoFundMe is specifically for raising funds to go towards hiring professionals to consult, design, and plan ways to fix the sidewalk and protect the building foundation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We hope that once we have these plans, the City and Apartment owners will decide to move forward with saving the tree. If this is the case, another GoFundMe will be created to help cover costs of repairs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>GENERAL IDEAS:
</div>
<div>Aside from costs of professional guidance, we are hoping this GoFundMe helps raise community awareness. We are hoping that with community help we can increase the amount of data the city is able to collect in this next 90 days. We are looking for community members who may have experience in structural engineering, or other folks with knowledge that may be able to aid us in collecting information that will support innovative ways of keeping the tree while fixing the sidewalk and protecting the foundation.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Once we can move forward into pursuing solutions, the likelihood is that the city will not be able to pay for all of the construction costs. We want to support the building owners in these costs, as saving this tree is a community effort. Repairing the sidewalk and finding solutions to protect the foundation will be costly. It is our priority to provide financial aid for these folks, encouraging them further to want to save the tree. As mentioned above if we are able to move forward (which is the City's final decision), we will create a second GoFundMe.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Currently, the state of the sidewalk is impassible, and we are encouraging the City Council to fix the sidewalk first, and then tackle the foundation issues. The sidewalk needs to be ADA accessible, while giving room for the tree to breathe. We know this may be difficult, but we suggest the possibility of removing one parking spot at the top of Walnut and Lincoln to provide this larger berth.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are hoping to raise funds to support hiring professionals to create these plans, as well as hear input from community members with ideas and knowledge!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for your support!
</div>

Pay for construction costs

<div>Hi, I’m Ty from Glenwood in Scotts Valley. Unfortunately, we’ve recently lost our beloved home to a devastating fire. The SV Fire Departments did an outstanding job protecting our neighborhood from potential devastation. Many people are asking to donate to our family cause but we’d rather direct money towards further enablement of our local firefighters. During the recent effort, they talked proudly of some new protective gear but they need more. And they discussed how they pay attention to individual SV houses that appear to be a fire risk. They’re true warriors and heroes of our community.

</div>

<div><br />

</div>

<div>SVFD have a pancake breakfast fundraiser scheduled for Sunday, Oct 1st but I think we can make it the most successful one ever. Thank you in advance for helping to keep our community prepared and safe!

<div>The <strong>X Academy Robotics Team</strong> from Santa Cruz, CA competed in the 2023 MATE ROV Regional Competition on April 22 in Watsonville, CA --- and, incredibly, they won a coveted invitation to the <strong>World Championships!</strong> One of only two teams to advance, the students from X Academy couldn't be more excited and thankful for the honor and while they recognize that hard work and perseverance got them to this point, they also humbly appreciate that now the real work begins...and <strong>they need your help. </strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a <strong>completely independent team, X Academy Robotics operates without direct support</strong> from any schools or sponsored facility. These dedicated students represent 5 different high schools from the region making X Academy one of only two high school robotics programs in the entire county. X Academy Robotics assembles at a rented maker space in Santa Cruz, founded with the mission of making enriching STEM programs, such as those readily available across Silicon Valley, accessible to students in Santa Cruz County.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>MATE (for Marine Advanced Technology Education) is a program of the National Science Foundation-sponsored Marine Advanced Technology Center based at Monterey Peninsula College. The MATE World Championship takes place June 20-24 in Longmont, Co, and the X Academy team is raising funds to cover the expenses involved in improving the ROV and float as well as travel costs so the entire team can participate.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The 20th annual MATE ROV Competition[c] challenges youth and college-aged teams from around the world to engineer remote operated vehicles (ROV)s to perform critical work underwater, with simulations that involve wind turbine and floating solar installation, coral health monitoring and sensitive aquatic habitat restoration. Designing and building ROVs is a terrific learning platform for students as they work on a host of skills across applied robotics that are analogous to real-world conditions and use-cases better suited for technical robotics.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Teams compete with their ROVs as well as their performance as a startup responding to an RFP published by MATE each year. The 2023 challenge includes tasks such as stewarding coral reefs and endangered fish that align with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>X Academy Robotics CEO, 12th grade student Andrew Sylvester, leads a team including 9th through 12th grade students from Kirby School, Santa Cruz High School, Pacific Collegiate, Los Gatos HIgh School, and Ceiba College Prep Academy. The team designed its ROV, Talos III, and autonomous vertical profiling float, Vulcan II, using Fusion 360. Team members wrote the software, designed a custom circuit board and 3-D printed and laser cut numerous other custom parts. <strong>Go Team! and Best of Luck at the World's!</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>No raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or returns on investment are offered in exchange for any donations made to your GoFundMe.</strong>

<div>update 3/26/23 - Andy has spent the last 5 days clearing his property of all the debris. He is chopping the trailers/rv up to go to the dump. He has taken countless trips the dump. He currently needs to have professional help removing the tree logs/rounds. He has cut them, but they are still too heavy/large to move. Our tractor/forklift wont work. Andy will be using some of the funds we’ve raised to remove the trees. He will use the remaining funds to get an RV/Trailer, a bumper, lights and windshield for Skye’s vehicle.
</div>

<div>Update 3/24/23- Thank you all so very much for helping us get Andy a home. We located one on Craigslist for $19,500.

<div>3/23/23- Hi, we are James &amp; Emma Sanchez and we are fundraising for a dear friend and his family and co-worker. Andy lost his house in August of 2020 to the CZU fires. He has spent the last 2.5 years rebuilding. He lost everything except for two vehicles in 2020. On Tuesday, March 21st a bomb cyclone hit Boulder Creek, CA and destroyed once again everything Andy and his family owns, except for one truck that was parked at work while he worked through out the day. He almost lost his family, 5 feet closer and Skye and June (2 years old) would not have survived. Andy is by far one of the most hard-working, kind, humble and amazing human being. They need help. They need our help. In 2020 we gave them our trailer to have, and they are now in need of another trailer so they can continue to live on the property while they rebuild again. Andy has permits and they have been approved, he now just needs a place to live. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
</div>
<div>With much love,
</div>

Andy & Skye and family need help rebuilding!

<div><em>Hi, I'm Brent,</em>
</div>
<div>I run a homeless services center frequented by Max, who a group of students recently violently attacked. Max has already had a difficult life, including a similar attack many years ago.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Like many community members, I was shocked upon hearing of the senseless beating that had left him clinging to life. We're heartened that he is alive and may recover, though it will be a long path toward health. This moment is one of those times when our community rallies in support of one of our own.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Max has visited Footbridge Homeless Services Center every day for more than 3-years, where he enjoys being a part of our community and helping with landscaping maintenance. Utilizing our storage, laundry and shower services, we've watched as Max has improved, and we've become friends.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It'll be a slow road to recovery; surprisingly, Max has few personal resources and will need our help. Our nonprofit will facilitate this fundraiser and allocate funds directly to Max to help promote his path back to healthfulness.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for joining us and donating what you can.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><em>Truly,</em>
</div>
<div>Brent
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>New Alert (10/17)
</div>
<div>This fundraiser has been much more successful than we had expected. This generous bounty will be used to help transform Max's circumstances beyond material items and help him access residential care. When we allocate funds, a spending ledger will be available upon request to anyone who donated.

</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>SCOTTS VALLEY — Police have arrested two high school students in connection with a serious assault on a homeless man in Santa Cruz.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Scotts Valley police officers detained two students, minors whose names were not released due to their age, shortly before 11 a.m. Monday at the Scotts Valley High School campus, according to Capt. Scott Garner. The arrests were in connection with what was described as “an elderly male was battered” shortly before 8:30 p.m. Friday on the 1400 block of Ocean Street, according to a Santa Cruz Police Department media log.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The teens — including a 14-year-old Santa Cruz resident and a 16-year-old Scotts Valley resident — were booked into Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of felony assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Witnesses to the attack described seeing three juveniles attacking a man and “stomping” on his head, according to a Santa Cruz police release. Investigators later obtained video showing the assault victim running away from the juveniles on Ocean Street before they struck him down and then fled in a vehicle.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The 53-year-old man was transported to Bay Area Trauma Center in critical condition for treatment of head injuries. On Tuesday, Santa Cruz Deputy Chief of Police Jon Bush said the beating victim remained in the hospital recovering from his injuries, but was conscious and speaking. Bush dispelled rumors of the man’s demise, a thread that had run rampant on social media since the teens’ arrest.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Homelessness services provider Brent Adams, who operates the nearby Footbridge Services at the end of Felker Street, said the injured man was one of his clients. He, too, told the Sentinel that he had heard that the man was deceased.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>“On the night of the attack, one of my clients arrived asking for a change of clothes because she had blood all over her for trying to save him,” Adams wrote in an email to the Sentinel. “Another client reported to trying to fight the attackers.”
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Adams described the injured man as an “unbelievably sweet” person who regularly did odd jobs for Footbridge Services and businesses in the neighborhood. Adams said that the man, though homeless, had long-time connections to the Santa Cruz community.

<div>It is with extreme sadness that we are starting this go fund me page for the passing of Carlton Keegan and his family. He has touched the lives of so many and it’s our turn to give back to his family in their time of need. We are raising money to cover the costs of the funeral &amp; memorial services as well as mental health, &amp; medical costs, in addition to anything else they need to get through this tragic loss of a child.
</div>

Memorial Costs and family needs

<p>Tony and I are two 20 year olds in santa cruz California. We lived with Tony’s grandpa, James and we helped to pay rent in agreement for us staying with him while we save up to move out and go to college.
</p>

<p>
</p>

<p>James unfortunately has passed away, leaving Tony and I, and our cat Rusty homeless. We are currently living in our van but it’s not sustainable and we don’t wanna be stuck like this.
</p>

<p>
</p>

<p>The money would help us find secure housing and be able to afford groceries and make ends meet during us being houseless. It would also help us with car payments and with dental procedures and medication we can’t afford while finding a place and paying rent as of right now. We both work, but we don’t make enough as of right now to keep us afloat and we unfortunately don’t have any family we could move in with or reasonably get help from. Anything at all is greatly appreciated, and we hate to ask for so much, we’re just really lost and in a tough place right now. Thank you all so much
</p>
