<div>Hello, my name is Diana, and it breaks my heart to be writing these words for my sister, Maria. What began as what seemed like harmless heart flutters in October quickly turned our lives upside down. Those early symptoms led to a 22-day hospital stay in November and ultimately to open-heart surgery to remove a tumor that had overtaken her right atrium.

<div>We were devastated to learn it was an aggressive and incredibly rare cancer—epithelial angiosarcoma, affecting 1 in a million people.


</div>


<div>Maria is still recovering from the trauma of surgery, and yet, the hardest part of her journey still lies ahead. Chemotherapy and possibly radiation are next!

<div>Through it all, Maria continues to show unimaginable courage. Our family is holding on to hope, love, and faith as we walk beside her through this battle no one ever expects to face.

<div>Still can’t believe any of this is real and we’re having trouble finding the words. Our brother Mark Batista, from Engine 226, passed away June 9th, 2023 while saving his daughter from drowning. In one final act of love and heroism, he jumped in after his daughter, Leann, who was caught in a rip current. His son Jhonner called 911 having witnessed what just happened and rescuers were able to save his daughter. She is alive and well. Tragically, Mark was found shortly after and had passed away.

<div>Mark always put his family first. In many conversations, he would describe how his loving wife, Lenin, brings him peace. How proud he is of his sons and how his princess Leann was his world. He would visit his grandmother at a nursing home before and after every tour he worked and when he wasn’t responding to the various emergencies of New York City, he would be FaceTiming his daughter and speaking to members about fatherhood.

<div>In the firehouse, he was always a pleasure to work with. Always keeping a positive outlook on life. He was very loved and respected. You knew you had someone you can count on to get the job done if he was working.

<div>While we stand in solace with Mark’s family during this time, his family has a long tough road ahead. His passing leaves behind the family he worked so hard to support. He is survived by his loving wife Lenin, his two sons Derek and Jhonner and of course his daughter Leann. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards supporting the family during this trying time.

Mark Batista’s family support fund

Anthony Lampo of the FDNY is a loving husband and father to one son and five beautiful daughters, with 3 under 3 and the youngest of which is one month old. On his way home from work on November 7, Anthony was on his motorcycle less than a block from his home when he was tragically struck by another vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital where he was taken directly into surgery where they repaired a hole in his aortic artery He also broke 3 of his limbs in multiple places, shattered his pelvis  and already has a blood clot.  Anthony has several surgeries pending for his broken bones and has many months of rehab ahead of him. Anthony was in the middle of adding on a new room to his house for his growing family and working a second job, this is something he no longer can do. I am hoping by setting up this GoFundMe page that Anthony and Lee can focus on his health rather than financial struggles. No amount is too small and I know they will be forever grateful for any amount they receive. Please try and help this wonderful family!
