CPC is asking for your help once again with Jewell. After Jewell came to CPC from having emergency care at the vet while in the final states of labor, Jewell went to a foster home with only four live babies who also passed away shortly afterwards. She had been crated most of her life with little human or dog contact. Jewell was depressed and she was medically a mess. She has been bred so many and since we've had her, she's had various skin issues and what we thought were UTI's. She's had ultrasounds, been on antibiotics, we've done blood work and skin scrapes.

We delivered her to her forever family late last week and she's in love. She has a 2-legged young boy to be her best friend and a 4-legged brother to play with constantly. It's the perfect home and everyone is overjoyed.

Over the weekend, she began having diarrhea and excessively squatting to urinate. This morning, she would not eat and the water she drank was quickly expelled from her.

She went to the vet this morning and on this most recent ultrasound, they think they see a mass in/on/around her bladder. She will be going in for surgery tomorrow morning.

Please help us cover these additional costs for this loving velvet hippo. We want Jewell to have a great life and her new family is so in love with her!

Jewell is out of surgery and in recovery! We just got the update from the veterinarian. Her uterine stump had an infection and it attached itself to the bladder. It's called a pyometra or a granuloma. It's not from anything that the vet did wrong, a lot of it depends on where she was in her heat cycle when she got pregnant the last time. They were able to remove all of the infected tissue. Basically, the stump was growing onto the bladder wall. There is a small piece of uninfected flesh that is still attached to the bladder wall. They did not want to cut into her bladder wall because that leads to a bunch of other possible problems and complications. Her new family will keep a close eye on her over progress to make sure she's not showing any new signs of infection. THANK YOU for all the good vibes you sent her way!

Jewell has arrived at the vet's office and is ready to head into surgery around 9:30am. Even with what is going on, Jewell is her happy-go-lucky self giving kisses to everyone, including the resident cat! Please keep Jewell and her family in your thoughts this morning! We are hoping for good news from the vet and will keep everyone posted on the progress and outcome! Please continue to share Jewell's campaign to help us cover the veterinary care costs! THANK YOU to those who have donated so far! We appreciate all the support SO MUCH!
