Help Us To Continue Our Work! Support The Native American Community Board! We need your help! Many of our programs at the Native American Women’s Health Education Resource Center are in peril from the proposed federal budget cuts. It is unclear just how these cuts will land, but we are preparing for some tough times and we need your help.
We are looking at a new presidential administration whose initial draft budget calls for reducing funding for the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Violence Against Women programs and will zero out the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. These are just among the many frightening plans. It is time to mobilize our progressive base and not wait until the last minute to ask for your help.
These funding sources are critical to the organization’s ability to serve victims of domestic violence and their children on the Yankton Sioux Reservation and to KDKO-FM our community-run radio station.
Closing our Women’s Lodge emergency shelter after 30 years of service or our transitional housing would leave victims of domestic violence without a safe and secure place to go and a chance to start a new, violence-free life. We must protect our right to choice, our community radio station must stay on the air so we can keep our community up to date on the struggles to protect our Mother Earth, our reproductive choice and embrace community education.
We are well known as a vital catalyst in calling for Native American women’s reproductive rights, activating Native women and men in political and community participation, and rallying Native communities to strive for positive social change.
I’m asking you at this time to please consider making a gift at whatever level is do-able for you.
I know that neither of us wants to envision a future in which Native women and families are (once again) left without resources or choices.
Thank you for being there for us.
Yours in solidarity, Charon Asetoyer Executive Director
