Justice for Wicked Fun Club: Join the Cause

My name is Steve Gagne, and I’m the proud founder and owner of Wicked Fun Club, a private, members-only social club for swingers based in Plymouth, Connecticut. Alongside my wife, Jodi, we’ve been part of the lifestyle since 2014. After nearly a decade of experience and personal growth, we decided in 2024 to build something special—a safe, welcoming space where like-minded adults could connect without judgment.
This wasn’t a financial decision; it was a passion project. We spent time scouting locations and found the perfect spot that met our criteria: privacy, ample parking, a safe neighborhood, an office layout (requiring no costly renovations), at least two restrooms, and just the right amount of space. What we envisioned was different from the typical club scene—no loud music, no dance floor. Instead, we created a relaxing lounge where people could actually talk and build real connections. Since opening in November 2024, we’ve grown steadily, receiving amazing feedback from members who love the club’s atmosphere and intention.
Unfortunately, the space we secured is located next to a church. Before signing our lease, we did our due diligence. We researched state law and town zoning regulations. As a social club—not an “adult business” open to the public—we were fully within our rights to operate. My wife, an attorney, thoroughly reviewed the zoning laws and confirmed there was no permit required, nor any legal barriers. We operate discreetly; there’s no signage or advertising on the building.
The issues began when the church’s pastor became curious about the club’s weekend traffic. Rather than seek dialogue, he watched our members from the parking lot, approached guests under false pretenses, took photos of tickets, and forwarded them to local officials and police.
In response, the Plymouth Police conducted a thorough investigation and confirmed there was no criminal activity. However, I was warned that political pressure was mounting—from the Mayor—to shut us down, and that a Cease and Desist Order could be coming.
What followed was a troubling series of events. The town attorney—after email exchanges with my wife—admitted our business “doesn’t neatly fit” within zoning regulations but acknowledged no actual violation. Still, the Mayor pressed forward. We were served a Cease and Desist. When we tried to appeal the order, the town initially blocked us from paying the appeal fee, claiming (incorrectly) that we needed the property owner's written permission. This was false under Connecticut law, which states that any aggrieved person has the right to appeal. Only after pushing back with legal pressure and media interest were we allowed to proceed.
Our Zoning Board of Appeals hearing took place on April 29, 2025. To a packed house of nearly 100 attendees—90% opposed—we respectfully presented our case. Many attendees, identifying as Christian, mocked us, name-called, and preached personal views rather than address zoning law. The Board asked zero questions. Then, in what appeared to be a pre-decided outcome, they entered a closed-door session with the town attorney—despite our objections—and returned with a unanimous vote to deny our appeal. The process felt anything but neutral or fair.
Now, we are preparing to take legal action at the state level. There is strong legal precedent supporting our right to operate. Ultimately, this isn’t just about one club—it’s about the rights of consenting adults to associate privately, and the need to protect businesses from discriminatory actions under pressure.
To fight this injustice and keep the Wicked Fun Club alive, we need your help.
We’re raising $50,000 to:
- Cover legal and litigation fees
- Support ongoing operational costs during the legal process
- Relocate if absolutely necessary, including moving and reopening expenses
This case could set a precedent, and if successful, we plan to take it to Federal Court as a civil rights violation. Your support means everything to us and the community we serve. Thank you for standing with us in this fight for fairness, freedom, and respect.
