Wayne Margolis - Please Help with Medical Expenses

On February 9, 2022, Wayne Margolis suffered a medical emergency and had to be brought via ambulance to RI Hospital. The next morning, our family received a horrific phone call from his ICU doctors telling us that Wayne might not make it and to please go to the hospital. Wayne had to be intubated and put on a ventilator. The doctors were preparing us for the worst. His kidneys and other organs were starting to fail. The next few days, we were terribly distraught thinking that we might lose him. It took a week for him to stabilize but he remained in the Intensive Care Unit for two weeks.

Finally, he was moved to a step-down unit at RI Hospital. For the next two months, he was only able to get out of bed a handful of times. His strength was completely drained and it was a chore for him to even feed himself. He was healing but very slowly all the while he seemed to be getting weaker.

Wayne needs intense therapy to try to build up his strength but it’s a long process after being practically bed-ridden for over two months, coupled with a muscle disease that causes his muscles to progressively weaken and atrophy. Due to this, it is much more difficult for him to regain strength, build muscle and fully heal.

Wayne remained at RI Hospital until early April. At that time, he was moved to the Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center at Newport Hospital. There, he received intensive therapy for over three hours a day, six days a week. Wayne has given 100% every day and even worked when he wasn’t in therapy.

The next step is a rehabilitation center where he will continue to receive therapy with the goal of being able to care for himself when he is able to go home.
