NEW UPDATE - Mirandas comments...
" I want to start by saying how difficult it was for me to allow myself to accept this kind of support. This has brought me lessons in more ways than you'd think and I have very grateful for that. I have decided to end this GoFundMe early as we have reached an amount that has covered both vet bills and training. Monty, Honey and I want to extend the biggest thank you to everyone who donated and I hope to be able to reach out to everyone individually to thank them. Some people I have not met, or donated anonymously so I will use this forum to say how much your generosity is appreciated. This year has been blow after blow for us and having this money so graciously donated to us, especially during Christmas when money is so tight for people, has lifted us up."
--------
I'd like to add my biggest Thanks to all of you!
Your concern and generosity are so very appreciated.
UPDATE : Today Monty had another vet appointment.
Miranda says "The Vet says we are on track to remove the current drains but need to add one lower. Lungs are clear and antibiotics are working. The swelling we are seeing means infection is pooling below the drains and that will be assessed tomorrow under sedation. If anything further needs to be done, he is being referred to a different surgeon hoping we get good news tomorrow. "
Also, Miranda is forever grateful for the love and support of you all. To feel the love and care pouring in from everyone has been a boon during this scary and uncertain time.
-----------
Last week, Monty the Boston and his wee sister Honey visited their local dog park at CFB Edmonton AB.
Monty is a well known, dog park favorite! Friendly and happy-go-lucky. Until things changed. A dog attacked him, quite unexpectedly. A much larger and more powerful pitbull type dog snapped and grabbed little Monty by the head. It was horrifying and traumatic to Monty and to Miranda (his owner and my daughter)
The owners checked on him and apologized. Telling Miranda they only adopted the dog 1 week ago and had no idea it would do something like that! Regardless, they did not leave any contact info, nor offer to follow up or help with a vet check.
It wasn't until the adrenaline wore off a bit that she was able to really get a good look at Monty. He had a puncture wound on top of his head! So she took him to the ER Vet, where he required heavy sedation just to be checked. The puncture was cleaned and he was given antibiotics. The following day, his neck swelled up like 'a bullfrog' and he was taken back to the vet a 2nd time. Where he wasn't able to be checked very well at all due to being in pain, terrified and frantic. He was given further antibiotics and Miranda was told to bring him back for a sedation visit to determine the extent of the damage.
Which brings us to today.
Monty was sedated and the vet was able to get a closer look at the situation. It's very concerning. The damage is worse than anticipated. The swelling in his neck was from the bite trauma and it was connected to the puncture wound on top of his head. The vet was squeezing the neck and blood and pus was pumping out of the head wound!
Monty has 3 drains in him and they must be monitored and kept clearing. His prognosis is unclear right now. But, He's got more meds and more vet visits ahead of him.
The trauma of this all has been overwhelming for Monty and Miranda.
I'm asking for donations toward Montys ongoing and future care. If he recovers physically, he's going to need specialized training to help him return to the happy-go-lucky boy he was before this attack.
All donations will be directed to Montys owner to be utilized for his medical care.
I know times are tight for alot of us and Christmas is right around the corner, I understand if you're not able to help...But if you can, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for taking the time to read thru and Please, Don't take your dogs to dog parks!
