Hiya!
The person I love needs some help.
Tiffany (they/she) is trans which means that they suffer with a condition called gender dysphoria which creates a vast disparity between your self-perception and your physical body.
It’s like a disconnect between your spirit and your form, meaning that the person you see in the mirror is often unrecognisable. Imagine for a moment how disorientating and frightening this would be.
This causes a great deal of discomfort in one’s own skin leading to severe anxiety and depression, isolation and in many instances, extreme self-destructive thoughts.
Tiff has found some gender-affirming treatments through electrolysis and hormone replacement therapy – these are identical to the gender-affirming treatments cis women have when they go through menopause.
Gender affirming care for cis people includes hair transplants, protein supplements, nose jobs, breast augmentations, HRT, hair removal…etc, many of which can be prescribed on the NHS. Curious that there seems to be very little moral panic around these treatments isn’t it.
Sadly the UK is light years behind many countries in terms of trans healthcare and human rights. You may have noticed the conspiratorial histrionics from the Tories, as they lean into far-right populism around women-only spaces and children being coerced to transition by liberal parents.
And while it’s healthy to think critically about what may be an unfamiliar area of science to many, it seems like a lot of excitement and vitriol for a group who represent 0.5% of the population, and who are already incredibly vulnerable and marginalised.
Anyway, given the UK is serving 1930s Germany at the moment, we’re having to go elsewhere for some procedures which are going to cost around 32k
Tiff needs FFS (facial feminisation surgery) in order to make their day-to-day life more managable and to help manage their severe anxiety. They can't get it on the NHS so we're looking to get it done with a clinic called Facial Team in Spain. They specialise in helping trans folk and it's a bit cheaper than going private in the UK, Hope you can help
